In USA, it's about 4in x 6in or 4in x 8in

Just a comment regarding the size. Have no envelopes those sizes. The one I use mostly is 16 cm x 23 cm, which would fit good size papers. Envelopes just 11 cm high fits rather slim papers which I wouldn't have so much use for.

Sorry.... Well, use the size, you have and make your partner happy ! As usual, theres no limitation when it is BIGGER, but dont get smaller !
