Description:

you know all those swaps that say "no free cards"? well this isn't one of those. for this swap you MUST send a "free" postcard. there is one catch, though. it must be altered. i guess you would say this is a mailart swap, not a postcard swap.

so, if you don't already have some, get out and pick up a couple of interesting "free" postcards and get out your pens, paints, glue, and glitter. let the card inspire you (rather than just totally collaging over the original. let's see those mail artists at work!

we'll keep it simple and have only one partner each. one card for one partner (so you can put all your efforts into one fabulous card!)

Hello! Would this be mailed in an envelope or by itself?

all postcards in this swap are to mailed "naked"!

I just wanted to say that using the 'free cards' for anything other than what they were made for is illegal. By doing so it just raises the prices of postage.

There isn't anything illegal in this swap. Free/ad cards are not the same as postage paid postcards.

Do free postcards include those that are for art exhibits? Can we use cards we have received in the mail as advertisements for art exhibits, shows, concerts and other events? (These cards are also often left on the counters at coffee shops and gift shops and other places--for free) Do they also include the ones in magazines for subscriptions, etc?

I think it means the postcards that are for sending to who you want rather than if it already had an address on the back and postage paid for say, Hello magazine to take out a subscription. We don't get many free postcards here, I love them though even just as they are, my door has a whole display of them we can get them in the school library but I haven't seen them anywhere else really.

well, i'm always happy to spark a little conversation but i will try to clear up what i mean. i'm talking about those free "ad" cards that you see in racks around town in restaurants and pubs. they're regular postcards meant to be mailed to whomever you want, they're just free because they are advertisements. some of them can be pretty interesting on their own (i have a collection, also) but they're also fun to alter so that they end up being an original work of art rather than an ad for some beer or snack or something. i think cards that advertise concerts and such would be fine but i don't know about using the ones that advertise art shows. i think those already show art made by another other artist and the purpose of the card is to advertise the art of that person. it seems somehow not fair to alter their work. but i like receiving those cards, too, so if anyone ever wants to send me one in a swap, feel free!!
