Have a funky little young one who loves old-fashioned fairy-tales? Starting a budding collection of unusual kids books?

For this swap, you will be sending one (1) partner one (1) vintage or funky kids book. Send more than one for extra hearts!

Vintage childrens books can be found at most used book stores or thrift stores for relatively cheap. Books in this category include: interesting collections of fairy-tales, any book with funky illustrations or art, books that have strange and unusual stories, collections of old rhymes/limericks, etc. Still don't know what I mean? Check out this group for inspiration. (http://www.flickr.com/groups/vintagechildrensbooks/pool/)

Modern childrens books can also be sent, but they MUST be original and interesting! Such books include: the You Can't Take A Balloon series, Eloise, Catwings, etc. Try to send something that you personally would enjoy as an adult!

There is a $10 limit on all books. Get creative! Don't just go to your local Barnes and Nobles and pick up any old book off the shelf - hunt around a little!

Technicalities: You must have a rating of 4.7 or better to participate in this swap. Newbies are allowed, but they must be pre-approved. I reserve the right to ban anyone at will. ALL PARTICIPANTS must have a completed profile BEFORE signing up for this swap.

If the book you'll be receiving will go straight to your little one, please comment below with how old they are, what kind of books they like, and any other requests you may have.

Happy Swapping!

Mmmm I can't wait!! These books will be FOR ME... lol I LOVE funky vintage books. LOVE them.

Q? Can we Ship Media Mail? I could send WAY more books with that kind of shipping, if it's allowed. Is that something we should ask our swap partner?

Dooped 07/21/2008 #

Sending through Media Mail is actually encouraged! All in all, it doesn't really matter how you mail your half of the swap/what services you use, but Media Mail is waaay cheaper and a lot more convenient.

OK thanks!! I only asked because it can take longer time wise. Good to know!

Hello all! I am looking forward to a book swap, my 2 year old girl just loves getting read to (nursery rymes & odd books - her newest one is Dogzilla...). We also have a 6 week old as well that we are getting a book collection going for.

PS- I really would not like to receive any religious type books. No offense, but your beliefs may not be the same as ours......

I'm kinda new to the swap world, what's media mail?

I have to say, I'm so excited about this swap, I LOVE vintage and funky children's books.
I also agree with Mindy, swapping religious books is a bad idea unless you're positive your partner has the same beliefs. In that case it may be kinda fun.

Oooo this sounds fun! I LOVE vintage kids books! ;)

Belle- Media Mail is a way of sending parcels through the USPS. It's cheaper, than say Priority, but does take several days longer to get to a destination. Hope that helps. ;)

It does, thank you faithandchocolate! I never knew it was an option, and definitely good to know, I guess I'll remember to send my swap book early then. :)

This is a great swap idea. Our daughter loves books! We prefer something vintage (pre-60s) like the Golden Books, Make Way for Ducklings, Billy & Blaze, etc.

She also loves the Mr. Putter & Tabby series (we don't own any of them yet!) which we've been borrowing from the library.

She will be thrilled!

You should note that Media mail can be ONLY used for things like Books, DVDs, Mags.. if the PO catches you at it it's a huge fine and possible jail time..

Well, yeah, that's why it is called MEDIA mail. It is also only available within the U.S.A. Here's a page at the USPS site that gives some information: http://www.usps.com/send/waystosendmail/senditwithintheus/mediamail.htm

I'm already on the hunt for my books to send! I plan on reading to my little girl and little guy. My daughter LOVES horses, and I have a bear theme in my little guy's room. We love nature and animals, but honestly we love all books, so I know we'll appreciate whatever is sent our way! :D

catlingmex 08/ 9/2008 #

I don't have kids, so there's no age restriction in my case. As long as the book(s) I get are vintage and/or funky, it'll be great!
