Description: | |
October is International Drum Month. Drums are one of my favorite musical instruments. They are also one of the most ancient of instruments. Dare I say that a mother's heart beat was the inspiration for the first drum?? I do! So, let's celebrate drums by posting 3 different drum images to each of 3 partners' profiles. You may use the same 3 images for each partner, or use 9 different images. To post an image, type the following but without the spaces: ! [ ] ( Image location ) If you have something you think might be interesting about drums, please feel free to share that as well. For me, I have learned some fascinating things due primarily to a dear friend of mine who is part Cherokee. He helped me make 3 drums from scratch. He molded the hoops for me by bending wet cedar wood into hoops and cinching them closed with sinew. He also provided me with a deer hide for the head of my largest drum. All I had to do was scrape the fur off first with a knife made from sharpened horn. After most of a summer day, I had barely managed to scrape half the area I needed. Bless my friend, he took mercy on me and finished scraping the hide. I then completed it by cutting cord from some more hide and stringing the drum head to the hoop to make the drum. I really must say that I can't help but really respect the work that first peoples put into everything they made! Here's to drumming! |
