Tarot Reading for the Beginning of 2017

This is the 2nd of a series of Tarot readings our group will do for 2017. Of course, as any ritualist knows, the second thing one does is to cleanse energy for the sacred space in preparation for a rite.

For that goal, our tarot reading for the beginning of 2017 will serve to cleanse our own energies in order to face what is coming in the new year.

This is an electronic swap, so we invite all members from around the great green Earth to join us.

Get into your sacred space. Take your favorite deck, shuffle and cut three times to the left. Then from the top of your shuffled deck, pull off the first card. YES, just one card will tell it all for the ending of this year. It means you, as the reader need to do a lot of sensing, looking and interpreting of this card.

Tell your partner what you see in the card that represents what they need to cleanse in their lives at the beginning of the new year.

When I did this reading for myself, I drew the 6 of CHALICES. Usually this card represents play, and the relationships between younger and older generations. The Snail imagery on the card surprised me so I looked up the meaning of Snail as a spirit guide to discover: 'Snail teaches us to cultivate patience in both our expectations of ourselves, others and life in general.' Also, this card seemed to be more about the teacher/student relationship, so for me, as a retired teacher, and because the reading is directed at cleansing sacred space within my own being, it seems spot on to show me the spiritual work I need to do this month.

I also looked up the meaning for 6 and found: When the 6 is on a career path, she generally goes a long way due to her sense of duty and responsibility -- but also because she is genuinely respected and well-liked. You will find many 6s in careers such as teaching, healing, counseling, construction, the legal field and law enforcement, especially prison guards. On the negative side, the 6 can be jealous and small-minded, tending to be more focused on the little details while ignoring the bigger pictures.
