Description:

Each person will send their partner a notebook (like the 70 page spiral-bound notebooks) with magazine scraps as writing prompts. You can glue as many writing prompts into the notebook as you want, so long as you have at least 70.

You are creating prompts for your partner to write about using magazine images. You do not have to write your thoughts for the prompt. You can leave them space under the image for them to write about it.

Please have at least 3 swaps completed by the time the deadline for arranging partners comes up. I want to ensure that nobody gets flaked on. I will, of course, angel if something does go wrong.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Let me make sure I have this correct ~ You cut out headings from magazines and glue them to the top of the page but leave the page blank so they can write there thoughts on it? Or do we write thoughts on those prompts also?

PenguinBurger 11/18/2008 #

I'll clarify more in the description. You are creating prompts for your partner to write about using magazine images. You do not have to write your thoughts for the prompt.

What should be the size of the notebook? A4 or A5 or....??

jimmyy 11/19/2008 #

do they have to be headings or can they be just random pictures?

kitty4peace 11/19/2008 #

Are phrases and things like that okay or is it strictly pictures?

PenguinBurger 11/19/2008 #

The notebook should be about 10.5 in. by 8 in, or 26.7 cm by 20.3 cm.

The prompts that you use in the notebook can be a mixture of phrases and pictures. Try to mix it up though, don't include only headings or one type of image.

kitty4peace 11/19/2008 #

Okay so I think this sounds great. I'm really excited!

ladydy5 11/24/2008 #

How many pages are to be used and should we prompt every other page giving the writing more room to write for that particular prompt? To clear that up, I reiterate: If the book has 70 pages certainly you don't want 70 prompts, right?

PenguinBurger 11/26/2008 #

I think that 70 prompts is good. The goal is to give your partner some writing prompts, not solely for the space to write.

kitty4peace 11/29/2008 #

Wow weren't there more people for this swap? I wonder what happened?

I'm almost done with my notebook! I've got like 20 pages left...I'm having a lot of fun with this!

PenguinBurger 11/29/2008 #

I'm glad you're having fun with it. That's the whole point after all. :-) I'm working on mine right now.

Lamyaa 11/30/2008 #

It looks like we're dropping like flies in here. I am almost done with my notebook as well. It has been great for sparking my imagination with all of the things that those images brought to my mind. I hope my partner has as much fun with it.

PenguinBurger 12/ 1/2008 #

It may be either due to the swap limit or that it might be hard to find 70 different clippings to use as writing prompts. I'm almost done with mine though. :)

Susi 12/ 1/2008 #

I have a ton of images cut out for my glue book, I'll be watching this!

Luckystar37 12/ 3/2008 #

Hmm, uh oh :/ I misunderstood the description and already got started. I hope this is alright: I have a 120 page notebook so for so things I am leaving 2 pages. No matter what, there will be more than 70 "prompts". So far (the first 40+) are all pictures. I read in the comments to use headlines, etc too. I will pepper them in for the rest, but it's mostly pictures.

I'm having a lot of fun finding magazine pics that make me think though, and I hope they do the same for my partner!

Lamyaa 12/ 3/2008 #

Luckystar37, my notebook (the only one of that size I could find in my podunk town) is 100 pages. I just left 20 pages free in the back in case the recipient wishes to expand upon a story, add notes or whatever. I hope that's okay.

PenguinBurger 12/ 3/2008 #

That sounds fine. As long as there are 70, that's fine. If you have the space to leave room for your partner to write, feel free!

PenguinBurger 12/ 3/2008 #

I just wanted to let everybody know of a couple edits to the swap.

I moved the deadline to January 9th. Feel free to mail before then, but I decided that I didn't want to interfere with the holidays and people trying to mail other things.

I also changed the swap description to say that there doesn't need to be a prompt on each page, but there does need to be at least 70.

Thank you everybody!

adoptacritter 12/ 9/2008 #

Mine is just about done. :)

cbpoole 12/11/2008 #

I'm looking forward to doing this! :D

lindsay 12/11/2008 #

I was a late addition to the roster, but I'm getting started on it now. I had a great time at the stationary store picking out a blank notebook for this! Very excited!!!

lindsay 12/11/2008 #

Just to verify, it doesn't necessarily have to be all images from magazines, right? Is it ok if we incorporate scrapbook embellishments and vintage photos and such?

PenguinBurger 12/12/2008 #

Yes, you incorporate other types of images as well. :)

cbpoole 12/13/2008 #

I probably have about 15-20 pages to go! I'm enjoying this!

kitty4peace 12/17/2008 #

Is anyone decorating the outside any special way? I can't decide to what to do with it....

communikate 01/ 3/2009 #

The outside of the book I made (for @Lamyaa - hi!) was pretty boring, but I didn't think anything would adhere to the weird material it's made of, so I made a fabric cover for it that works kind of like the book covers we had to make for elementary school books. It was pretty easy and spruces the notebook right up! I am mailing it off today!
