AACG: Let's Try a Magpie Journal!

Let's try something different in our group: a magpie journal! I'm certain you've seen LOTS of swaps for them and there's even a group for Magpie Journals now.

So . . .let's shoot for 20 pages total, so if you decorate front AND back, you'd use 10 actual pages. If you leave the backs blank so your partner can write in the journal you'll use 20 actual pages. Let's shoot for a size of 5" x 7".

Now . . . what to include . . . let's not make this a journal for receipts and bus tickets and the like. Let's make this a celebration of the art that appeals to each of us.

Simply suggestions . . .

• a beautiful piece of paper that speaks to you

• a beautiful postcard

• some lovely used postage stamps

• something you draw

• a magazine image that calls to you

• a simple watercolor done by you

• printed images you find beautiful or whimsical

• flattened flower petals

• a beautiful tea bag wrapper

• a favorite quote

• something printed in an appealing font

• a seed packet cover left over from your gardening adventures

• a washi tape design you're crazy for

• a photograph of someone or something you love

Beside each 'entry,' write a few words about why you like the item. Does it appeal to your sense of whimsy? Does it remind you of your parents? Is it your favorite color? Did you visit this place and the image brings back wonderful memories?

Never completed this type of journal before? It's simply a celebration of what you find beautiful.
