This swap will be International, and you will have 1 partner. My daughter is 16, and has introduced me to the idea of a "fandom". Wikipedia defines fandom as: "Fandom is a subculture composed of fans characterized by a feeling of empathy and camaraderie with others who share a common interest. Fans typically are interested in even minor details of the object(s) of their fandom and spend a significant portion of their time and energy involved with their interest, often as a part of a social network with particular practices (a fandom); this is what differentiates "fannish" (fandom-affiliated) fans from those with only a casual interest." In my time here on swap-bot, I've noticed many people really "into" their chosen book genre, author, series, etc. I'll admit, I don't understand some of it, but it can be fun. So I thought it would be nice to share. :) Maybe you'll find a new pal to discuss the fandom about! :) If you aren't currently part of a fandom, that's ok. You can still join in and talk about your favorite book or series or author, and why you enjoy it, how often you re-read and so on. :) Send your partner a letter describing your "fandom" - do you have a certain author that you will ALWAYS buy/read? Is there a series that you just cannot wait for the new book to come out? Or is there a book or series that you re-visit over and over again? Do you celebrate events or birthdays spoken about in a book or series? Or do you share terms and phrases from a book/series you love? (You can answer the above questions or just use them as inspiration.) In a letter to your partner (handwritten or typed, either is fine), "own" your fandom - if it's a book series, identify the series, the titles of the books, author, the genre. Talk a bit about what it's all about. Introduce "your precious" to your partner. Then go on to talk about what draws you to the book/series. Maybe it's a location, or a character - whatever draws you to it. Talk about anything you might do to "celebrate" the fandom. Even if it's just re-reading the book every year, that's fine. If you throw a birthday party for a character, talk about that. :) You can use stationery or plain paper, decorate or not - the written portion of the letter is the goal - everything else is sender's choice. :) Length of the letter .... I'm not a fan of a minimum page or word count. This is a reading and writing group, so - write! Explore your thoughts and ideas, your feelings. Any questions? Please PM me directly! I will not answer questions listed in the comments section. Long days and pleasant nights! |
