Christmas is on the horizon in our little village of Amberleigh, and we thought to move into the ambiance of the season with a Regency style of Advent Calender. In case you are not aware of what an Advent Calender is, it is approximately an A4 sized image, upon which there are 24 numbered doors/windows to open during the month of December. Opening one numbered window per day leading up to Christmas. Behind the door upon opening, is a tiny drawing or symbol (eg, Xmas tree, bauble, candle, angel etc). Before you throw the towel in, fellow Georgettes, you may opt to buy one. On-line they retail for around $4 - $6... Richard Sellmer's company from Germany makes traditional advent calendersvery reasonable in price. https://sellmer-verlag.de You also have the option of making yours from scratch if you are inclined to cutting windows and doors into a scene from a painting of the period (downloads acceptable), it might be a village or town vista or perhaps a Georgian House setting or simply the lovely front door. (see for example, this years gorgeous Fortnum and Mason Advent Calender). We only ask that the picture of the advent calender is in keeping with the flavour of our period. No obvious jolly fat red Santa Clauses and sacks full of toy commercialism, as he was not to be for another 75 years. But Christmas trees are most welcome. You might opt for an indoors scene also. That choice is yours. You have a two week sign up, so as this is senders choice, go ahead and make your calender or purchase yours in readyness to send out. I made this an earlyish send date, so that it may not compete with the December rush mail. We hope you might choose to join us, to feel at home enough to participate and open our doors and windows together along the way. |
