Description:

After the first version of this swap – Mermaid Booklet – someone on here, Ayne, had this fab idea of doing the same swap, but with a medieval / renaissance theme. I first though about splitting them and do two swaps, but then figured it might be difficult for everyone to find enough pictures to work with, so… here goes!

The rating you need to have to join this swap I had to put up higher simply cause it looks as if I’ve been flaked on the mermaid swap myself and I’m getting a little fed up with such drama.  I loved making the booklet for my swap-partner, but would also have loved to receive one myself… sigh!

Anyway, here are the rules: You will take 9 pieces of sturdy paper. They have to be something between the size of an ATC and a postcard. Then you will decorate each paper on BOTH sides - the theme is Medieval and Renaissance. You can use anything you like, nice papers, fabrics, embellishments, ribbons, let your imagination go wild! And definitely don't just slap on a sticker! The sides of the papers don't have to be straight - they can be cut, ripped, etc. whatever will fit your artsy cards!

Once you're done with decorating you will cut a small hole into the LEFT UPPER side of every card, maybe secure it with something or pull a small ring through it and THEN you'll put all the cards onto a keyring or something similar – you can improvise here! You can always add more decoration onto the keyring as well, like some ribbons or pendants - you don't have to though. --> UPDATE: If you have ideas for another kind of binding that will result in a neat booklet, that's ok. Just make sure you create a booklet, self-made. :)

Here are the rules:

• A rating of at least 4.8

• At last 10 sent out swaps and no recent no sends. If you're having trouble with a swap but can explain - please contact me.

• You will have ONE swap partner.

• Please post HERE if you prefer your booklet to be of a cute kind (think Walt Disney for example) OR if you'd prefer it to be a little more on the serious side (think fantasy artwork or the picture I've posted here - that's John William Waterhouse by the way :)). I will update your preferances here.

• INTERNATIONAL

Note: Please be aware that in this swap nudity may be involved as it’s heading towards art and this can mean paintings that are on the adult side, or also fantasy art. If you have a problem with that, please don't join. Thank you.

I just want to clarify, we can use artwork like from postcards, notes, calendars, that sort of thing and embellish them or mount them onto our pages with riboons, fabrics, other papers, etc? Just make a nice booklet for this theme, is that correct?

I would prefer my booklet more on the serious side and btw, I love Waterhouse and Dicksee myself, amazing artists!

Trinket 01/18/2009 #

I have an idea of what I would make, I want to include drawings and general pictures with a romantic medieval theme, my pictures can be deemed cutesy due to my manga style. I hope that is ok, Please if you are my partner and you wish for serious. I will try. But dont hold it against me if the pictures are not 100% drawn to a realistic standard (like the image above). I simply cannot put oils to paper for a booklet, though maybe one piece of work.

I personally would prefer something made with care. Serious or cutesy I want my partner to explore the subject. I am a huge fan of the sort of gothic medieval text, I am not a fan of people simply googling medieval and clicking print. Though collage is fine. I just would like something with a bit of umph!

gosh dont I sound picky? please Pm me if your my partner or If Im yours lets have a natter.

Thank you so much for doing this. I prefer serious, classical style art, I do not like cutesy or anime art styles at all. I like Waterhouse but my personal favorite is J.M. Strudwick. My icon here on swap bot is from a Strudwick picture. He is a contemporary of Waterhouse but favored a more Reniassance style. I don't Google, I Dogpile, then I push print...after which I stamp, bead, embellish, stick, sew, embroider and glue then I add words, after that I made two bookcovers and bind the whole thing together...but I do start with classic art, because that is what I do.

@NaughtyElf Yes, that's the general idea. IF someone wants and can, of course they can also draw. It's also not the idea that you for example embellish like mad just for the sake of having done it - I think it depends on the pictures you'd use. Work with what you have and decorate as much or as little as you like and feel is right. :)

@Trinket I like the idea of your work - I'd love it. But as you said, PM will be best. The idea IS to work with the subject. It means a lot to me - mainly medieval as I love exploring that time, love attending faires, etc. :) I guess the worst thing to do would be to google and print out whatever - like pics of people in rather awfully made costumes... seen that before. :p

@AynE Thanks once again for the idea of this! :)

kasade 01/19/2009 #

I prefer serious myself, but am okay with whimsy. I don't like to limit the artist, so I'll be happy with what I receive!

eadaoin 01/19/2009 #

I'm happy with anything - no restrictions!

whisperelmwood 01/22/2009 #

This sounds so much fun c.c I'm in - and I prefer serious - though a little cutsey here and there can slip by ^^

whisperelmwood 01/26/2009 #

I've had to drop from the swap, because I don't think I'm going to have the time to take part - sorry! I'll keep my eye open for smaller things in future

sunshinesuperman 01/27/2009 #

I can't wait to start on this swap. I would prefer my booklet to be of the serious nature. Thanks

lovelylunalovegood 01/29/2009 #

I'm so excited for this swap! I used to be a Medieval and Renaissance studies major, so my partner is going to be getting something very very special! ^.^
I personally prefer more serious tones and illuminated manuscript artwork... :) runs off to get started

tinnuwen 01/30/2009 #

yay! more people have joined! :) @ everyone: Think about using whatever comes to mind of course, but if you're looking for printed / already existing pictures inspiration, you could think just like lovelylunalovegood mentioned illuminated manuscript artwork for example. It doesn't have to be people only (though it can :)). The Book Of Kells could be an idea for example... Or you could think of one picture of a sword or bow and arrows, etc. And we're not going to 100% historical accuracy here, so don't worry about that too much. :)

cerwinrhiannon 01/30/2009 #

I prefer serious.
