Description:

This swap is about making your partner smile, making their day. Come home from a long day, had an empty mailbox for a while, just having a down day.... You open your package and you just can't help but smile. That is the point of this swap. I am sure we have all got some so-so swaps or a thoughtless swap that barely met the requirements, there will be none of that here. Here is what you need to do.

Firstly you will have 1 partner each, there is no monetary value on this swap, BUT what you send needs to be thought out, so check your partners profile, or check the comments (please feel free to make some notes in the comments section of the kinds of things that outline what cheers you up, or things that you do/don't like).
Because this is an international swap, to keep postage down I think we should aim for flat-ish, think 6x9" or 16x24cm envelope size. This is not a requirement, but don't rate someone poorly because you don't get a huge package. Good things do come in small packages.
You can include handmade or store bought goodies as we aren't all master crafters, there is no limit on the amount of items you can include, try to aim for 2-5 small quality items though. Please also no junk, as this is all about thoughfulness, we want smiles and we are aiming for hearts here.

Please do not sign up if you have a rating of 4.5 or below, or more than 2 recent no sends. I will be checking and banning people who do not meet these requirements. Genuine newbies welcome, but please let us know a bit about you first, and if anyone really really wants to join, and does not meet the requirements, feel free to contact me and we can discuss things.
Important!! - Please have a completed detailed profile, or a good likes/dislikes comment posted. If your partner can't find out about you, then they can't send you a special package. Don't sign up if you are not going to honour this swap either, this is supposed to be special, we want to aim for no non-senders. Please bare in mind, you can't tell people what you want, just give them ideas and a helping hand, so don't write a list and be dissapointed if it isn't exact, sometimes it is hard to get hold of things that other people get easily. Feel free to ask questions.

Now go forth and make your partners day!!! Be thoughtful, be happy, and be honourable :)

What a lovely idea. :)

FarStarr 04/ 4/2007 #

Those bunnies just made my day!

hyperoma 04/ 4/2007 #

i'd love to make someone's day :)

BleakOptimism 04/ 4/2007 #

To get the ball rolling a little I will start by saying, welcome to those that have joined, and in regards to this swap, I don't mind what I get, as long as someone genuinely thinks I will like it :) anything eclectic will interest me and I am fond of things that visually intigue me. No candies/sweets for me, not really into them that much and if anyone sends me a capsicum/sweet pepper or a cat fur scarf or something I might get upset as I am alergic ^_^ Hope that helps someone in the future

user7267 04/ 8/2007 #

I'm a newbie, so I'm telling a little about myself. I'm a knitter first and foremost, and I usually find myself knitting lingerie items to sell. I also enjoy using up paper of all types (except wide-rule) immensely. I have bipolar disorder and I'm a feminist. I think that just may cover most of the bases!

Thanks!

BleakOptimism 04/ 8/2007 #

Thanks for the introduction and welcome aboard :) Lingerie? Excuse my knitting newbieness (I knit toys and scars etc out of cheapo yarn I find on sale ... hangs her head in knitting shame), but what does a piece of lingerie get knitted with so it isn't scratchy/irritating. You don't have any pictures do you, I am really fascinated now ^_^ And great to have you in the swap

user7267 04/10/2007 #

One knits the lingerie with cotton, bamboo, or plush nylon yarn (hehe). That way it's not scratchy/itchy. I don't have pictures of the lingerie (yet) as my digital camera is acting up, buuuuut I still have pictures of the swimsuit I knit (sans pattern!) using Cascade Fixation yarn (mostly cotton, some elastic--that's the key part, is the elastic).

Thanks :D

dandelion 04/12/2007 #

Yep, those bunnies in the cups got me, too!!! Just about anything in a cup will make my day (as long as it's not creepy, crawly). There should be plenty of other ideas on my profile.

I saw a great segment on knitting bathing suits on Knitty Gritty. Did not even know it was back in vogue. My string bikini days have come & gone!! lol! :D

BleakOptimism 04/12/2007 #

Hehehe who's day isn't made with a bunny in a cup :) Alas I am not sure that would work very well in the mail somehow O.o

pinkwhirlitop 04/14/2007 #

I have to say, the only way those bunnies could be matched would be with kittens or ducklings in teacups. Other than that, I love it!

Are we supposed to introduce ourselves? Well, okay then!

I, like BleakOptimism, don't mind what I get as long as it will make me happy. I love organic things, but that's just me being picky, I guess. :P Don't feel pressured. I like pink, and red, and purple, and green, and blue, and... oh my, I could run up the whole rainbow here! I can even deal with orange. Sometimes. :)

I will have a really close look at my partner's profile and try to send you things you'll love. Making someone's day is all I need to make me happy.

user4958 04/16/2007 #

Don't know if it's possible to choose your swap partners, but i'd like to do a swap w/ shira. She seems like my cup of tea:P

BleakOptimism 04/16/2007 #

Unfortunately swapbot assigns our partners automaticaly, perhaps if you do not get who you want, you could send them a message asking if they'd be interested swapping something else.

And an introduction isn't essential, but it helps get the feel of things going and hopefully can give our partner a little something extra to work with other than just our profiles :)

abbehope 04/18/2007 #

Lets see... I'm mainly a knitter but I also make jewlery when I find the time. I prefer wool and cotton yarn, and I'm in to natural fibers, acrylic etc doesn't really "do it" ;) I also do crochet, tunesian crochet, hairpin lace etc...

Also I'll be moving soon and can't really decide if I'm sad or trilled, maybe a little of both? I'm just finnishing my university studies and it'll be sad not to be a student anymore! Please make my day :)

user6886 04/23/2007 #

I am looking forward to making someone smile. This is my second swap and I am having a lot of fun. I like funky colorful things. I am an artist/designer and love handmade things and fun things. I look forward to the swap.

BleakOptimism 04/24/2007 #

Getting close to the big assigning of partners day, hope you are all excited and ready, I am looking forward to this :)

MOMO 04/24/2007 #

im from singapore, new to swap, but would really like to join in to make someone day and someone to make my day (: promise i'll send it, please please..

Anniehall 04/25/2007 #

Hello everybody. I'm so excited about this swap because I believe that I need some endorphins already and I'd love to make the day to another person. I can't wait to start to swap! About me preferences... these things make me glad: fun socks, good secondhands books, bookmarks, chocolate, good music, anything related with classic cinema, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, kittens, art expressions from your city/country. You also can surprise me! Thanks. Best regards.

mbrat 04/25/2007 #

Hello all. This is just the swap I need, I just had two partners flake on me in the same swap so I could use a smile. I pretty much go for anything, easy to please. My only real dislike is anything neon. Anything else goes.

Basilika 04/25/2007 #

I make a lot of ATCs, cards, collages etc and also some crazy patchwork, so basically anything that I can glue or stitch to something, or that I can glue or stitch something to, will make me happy. I love patterns, both simple and intricate, and all colours except very light soft baby-colours and dark yellow. I really like home-made things, vintage things and things that are odd or weird. If you're a crafter of any kind feel free to send me scraps, like spare stickers or a yard of the yarn left over from the last scarf you knitted. I consider things like that to be treasure, not trash. Or if you want to send a simple pattern or desciption to teach me your craft that would be ace! Don't worry about teaching me something I already know, I usually make things up as I go along and actually know very little. Since I'm in Sweden and you most likely aren't, I would love it if you send me some everyday object that's specific to where you live, like a citymap, cut-out from newspaper/magazine, food label (clean, please) or used bus- or train-ticket (I do like used tickets of all kinds).

I'd rather you didn't send me anything to eat or drink, or anything with an artificial fragrance (since I'm more or less sensitive to several different things it's just easier that way). I don't take baths or put anything on my skin, like lotion or lipgloss. I don't like Disney characters, I don't believe in gods and the only kind of jewelry I can wear are bracelets.

Also, I like to pet bumble bees.

BleakOptimism 04/26/2007 #

Well Yay!!! I just assigned swap partners, if anyone has any last words on the swap and their interestets etc feel free to do them now before everyone is deep into their package :) I am off to start finding the perfect goodies for Blue Eyed Girl :D

Cassandra 04/26/2007 #

I love to knit especially socks using soft wool or cotton. I am an at home mom to 3 daughters. I do bookkeeping for my husband's business. I also have my own little at home business of hand dyeing wool to sell to pay tuition. That is about it. I'm simple.

blueyedgirl 04/26/2007 #

I realized that I never wrote anything down for likes/dislikes. I think my profile is pretty well filled out, but I am relatively easy to please. I love handmade stuff, but anything cute and fun makes me happy. I love mix cds with songs I've never heard- I'm pretty open when it comes to music, but I love acoustic stuff. I do a lot of crafty things, so anything crafty is good. And I love candy, almost all kinds.

Whoever got me- I am leaving for a LONG vacation (2 months) at the end of May, so if the package doesn't arrive before then, I'll get it when I come back; so, if you do't have time to send it soon, please don't put anything perishable in. If it doesn't get here before, whatever- I'll have mail when I get back! I just couldn't bear to not do some swaps before I left.

mbrat 04/27/2007 #

Panj, your package went in the mail today, coming from Canada. Hope it makes your day :)

BleakOptimism 05/ 9/2007 #

BlueEyedGirl, your package was sent Tuesday, was supposed to be Friday but I lost your address and was already at the post office, so I got my bf to send it Monday, and he forgot :'( but I made him feel really guilty about it, and he sent it Yesterday, hope it gets to you before you go away and you like it. I hope people are enjoying the swap :)

user6217 05/ 9/2007 #

carol c thanks for the package. love the books

Starwatcher 05/11/2007 #

Cheryl, your package is on the way to you from Oregon, so be patient! I think you will like what the postperson brings - and hopefully, it will make your day!

abbehope 05/13/2007 #

I'll be sending my package from Norway tomorrow (monday), I got a little held up with exams, had to go shopping to get what I wanted to give my partner in this swap! Hope my partner will be happy when it arrives!

donnasaurus1 05/15/2007 #

MOMO Thanks so much for the lovely package which i received, everything is lovely and also thanks for thinking about my children too it means alot.

Donna xxxx

Basilika 05/15/2007 #

I giftwrapped everything in my package before realizing I would have to put a customs form on the outside, so if you get a package from me don't read that (unless you really hate surprises).

Basilika 05/16/2007 #

I'm really sorry but I left my package at the "post office" (my town isn't big enough to have a real post office, it's just a counter at a gas station/mini mart), and now I remember their pick up is much earlier than the mailboxes where I usually mail stuff, so it won't really be on its way until today. And tomorrow is a bank holiday in Sweden, I wanted it to be out of the country by then.

Cassandra 05/16/2007 #

nanvan: your package went out in the mail today. Enjoy!

Vlcatko 05/16/2007 #

ddmaree --- your wonderful package arrived today! Thank you :) You truly did stand up to this swap's name :) The Cinnamoroll notebook is supercute and how could I not love those sticky notes with my initial :))) The article is very interesting and... well I like everything really :) Thank you very much :)

Starwatcher 05/18/2007 #

Boopgirly, Your package arrived today and WOW, YOU MADE MY DAY! What a wonderful collection! Everything was top-notch and just what I loved! From the travel fabric (I'll have to give some good thought what to do with that!) to the stickers and travel pack, postcards, fibers, and ATC's - this was more like a birthday present! I really feel blessed! Thank you so much!

MOMO 05/20/2007 #

can i know who sent me package so i can leave a rating for him/her? sorry but im doing 3 swaps at one go thus very confuse with which package for which swap.

MOMO 05/21/2007 #

i haven received my package for this swap:(

BleakOptimism 05/22/2007 #

Momo, I just had a look, and your artner is marked as having sent their package, but don't panick yet, the mailing deadline for the swap hasn't even ended yet, the 25th May is the date items have to be sent by not recieved by, also chances are it will be international for you, so it can take about 2 weeks to travel there. If in about 2 weeks time nothing has shown up then we can panick, but your partner has a great rating, you just gonna have to wait for the postman to do their thing :)

BleakOptimism 05/22/2007 #

I must also say, I am very proud, everyone bar one person seems to be marked as having sent and it isn't even the close date yet!!! Wow, great job everyone, thanks for helping make this swap great fun :) If anyone has any problems let me know, and we can go about sorting it out, I don't want anyone to have a poopie experience with this swap

nanvan 05/25/2007 #

Shira... !! Did you receive your package? I sent it a looooong time ago - I am hopeful that you did, and that you liked it. :) Please let me know! Thanks. nanvan

BleakOptimism 06/ 1/2007 #

How are we going for swaps recieved? Anyone having any issues? If you are let me know, I am sorting Fraxillina, so sad we had one flaker :( If anyone else has issues though I am happy to try and help sort things out, it could take a little while, but everyone WILL be happy or else! hehe

Basilika 06/ 4/2007 #

Well, I haven't gotten mine yet but my partner's in Singapore and I'm in Sweden so I think I can wait a bit longer before I start to worry.

MeaghanLC 06/27/2007 #

I have emailed pinkieme several times to see if she has gotten it....hope it got there ok. Still don't know.

Basilika 07/ 6/2007 #

I still haven't gotten anything from pinkieme, I sent a message which has been read but not replied to. sigh Looks like I'll have to give out my first 1 ever.

nanvan 07/ 8/2007 #

I know a lot of time has passed - but, I still can't get the fact that "edlyn x aka shira" never rated me for the package I sent her all the way to Singapore. I have tried to contact her to make sure she got it, but have never heard back. It's such a damn bummer when you put so much thought into something and think you did a great job, then, sh*t like this happens... ! Oh, well, onto happier Swap-eeee's! :)
