Description:

Our first group swap will be a collaboration. Over the course of 5 swaps, we will make 5 Gothic arches. Each swap will be a new opportunity to collect an arch and at the end of the series, we can bind them into art books.

This swap is inspired by this project: Gothic Arch Project by Belinda Schneider.

Making the Gothic arch

There’s a template shared on the project page linked above that we'll be using for our arches:

Gothic arch template

The printer settings you use should be:

Paper size 8.5"x11"
Photo size 4"x6"
Shrink to fit

This will give you an almost 4"x5.5" Gothic arch when you print it. Please use this for all arches in this swap series. Your Gothic arch needs to be cut out of something sturdy such as Bristol or watercolor paper or recycled cardboard packaging (thin, not corrugated).

If you are unable to print a template for yourself, please message me and I will mail you one.

Each arch we create in this series will feature a PERSON and also one extra element that will be different each swap. If you're curious, the series will go like this:

Swap #1: a person with a crown. ⟵this swap
Swap #2: a person with wings.
Swap #3: a person with a flower.
Swap #4: a person with an animal familiar.
Swap #6: a person with a party hat.

The persons you use are up to you - they can be any gender, young or old.. Style of art you use on your arches is also up to you. The front of the arch needs to be fully arted up, while the back is to be minimally decorated (patterned paper, monoprint, color wash, etc.) and have your signature.

When you are done, send your arch protected in a notecard or folded piece of cardstock inside an envelope.
