This swap series was inspired by @mariewilliams810 s great series, which I have participated in and enjoyed: Brighten My Week Notecard. However, because she already has the week-brightening covered, we're bringing ourselves back to reality a bit. For this swap, please send one nice storebought or handmade notecard in an envelope. In the notecard, we will be writing something to ruin your partner's week! I have a lot of prompts ready to go in case people enjoy this series, but for now, this week's prompt is: UNPLEASANT HISTORY - genocides and mass killings. I do feel that learning about these events is important in gaining a comprehensive and holistic understanding of international affairs. Please reference this article: List of genocides by death toll. You may select any genocide that ended prior to the year 2000 that you had not previously known about or known much about. You may also select any of the other mass killing events listed in the opening paragraph. In your notecard, please write: who was involved (perpetrators, victims), where it happened, what years, how many were killed, and relevant context (ie, why did it happen, "only" 10,000 people were killed but it was a population of 12,000, etc). The goal is to give a basic overview to your partner. This is a sensitive topic, and I am very serious when I say not to participate if it is going to make you uncomfortable. Nearly all of this information can be obtained from the chart in the listed article (which does not contain details or images). However, if you choose to click any article, be advised that you will read graphic information and that more modern events have some horrific imagery that can stay with you for some time. It is not worth subjecting yourself to abyss-gazing if you know you are not going to be able to look away. This is especially true of the events listed in the opening paragraphs that have very comprehensive articles. Since this swap is negative, we will also be sending a flat surprise that is not intended to ruin your partner's week. It does not need to be extremely profile-based, but please do not send something from their list of dislikes/things they do not want to receive. It is ok if your partner does not mention liking or using the type of item you send as long as it isn't a dislike -- just make sure it's something nice that they can pass along if they don't love it. Examples include: a sticker sheet, 3 washi samples, memo sheets, a couple blank postcards, a blank notecard with envelope, ephemera, stamps, playing cards, a drawing or short piece of writing about something they've requested on their profile, etc etc. You may make something homemade. This is a very depressing topic, so trying to add some cheer is definitely encouraged. Swap Rules
