Description:

I see another swap going on for the Day in the Life Tour, where you mail the pictures to your partners, and I was thinking a digital swap might make it easier and less expensive, if more technology-heavy, for an International swap.

So here's the deal: To participate in this swap, you need the technical know-how and software to create an electronic document that can contain pictures and text. MS Word, MS Publisher, Photoshop, GIMP, Printshop, Home Publisher, etc.

Take 10-12 digital pictures of each hour of one of your typical days, combine it with a digital plain text journal explaining each scene and how it came to be, what you were doing and why, and put it all into a file that you can send electronically to your partner. Adobe .pdf, Plain text or an html file with .jpg pictures is preferred if you partner doesn't have MS Word to open a .doc file.

Keeping in mind that not all of us have broadband connections, please make the pictures small enough so that it doesn't take all day to download them.

The sign up date will be three weeks from now, and the mailing date will be three weeks after that to give time for composition of your document. The actual mailing should be instantaneous, or pretty close!

If you sign up and have a very slow connection, you could ask your partner to perhaps post the document on their blog or at Flickr or something, post a comment here so they know what to do for you.

If anyone needs some technical help on composing this type of document, e-mail me and I'll help you get it going.

Please don't sign up if you have more than one no-send, or have bad ratings, less that 4.5--or e-mail me with a really good reason why you should be allowed to join. Newbies are welcome if they have the technical knowhow to make and send this type of document.

You'll have to contact your partners through the Swap-bot message center to get their e-mail address to e-mail your document. If you choose bewteen you to do something else, that's up to you, but be considerate of each other! It's all supposed to be fun! Cyn

Ohhhhhh I love this idea... I hope it becomes a more than once thing!

twobluecrows 04/20/2007 #

I love the idea that it's all virtually free--only takes some time and a little effort to make it nice!

The picture up at the top was put together in Word, then I copy/pasted it into a new file on Photoshop so I could save the whole thing as a .jpg which was necessary to post it here.

The whole page, which started out as a regular .doc then I pasted it into a 72res 8.5"x11" file, then reduced it to only 200x200 here!

For my real project, I'll see if my partner has Word, as that would be the nicest quality to send for viewing or printing. If not, then I'll do it as a picture(or a set of them).

.pdf files are great because they can be read with the free Adobe software avaiable to just about everyone (I think even people using Macs). My DH has software to create those files, and I can get info about that if anyone is interested.

i wanted to join the original swap but thought better of it cause of the cost of printing pictures on top of postage.

thank you for coming up with this virtual one! (at least my heart won't feel so much pain if i were to meet a flaker)

twobluecrows 04/23/2007 #

My thoughts exactly, hyperoma--but I still don't want any flakers to sign up! We want results for our virtual labors, too! :) Cyn

this sounds like a lot of fun -- i'm not super artistic, but i do harass the people around me by constantly taking pictures of everything. :D

I love everything about this swap - creating a memory for myself, the "no-cost" aspect, creativity etc. My real challenge is going to be - being happy with my pictures. But that is why I swap - to grow, learn and have fun.

This is cool! I'm all for setting up a Flickr page -- then we could see everyone's pics. :)

What a giant production I made this into. It was HUGE, I mean ENORMOUS. 25-page PDF with over 200 images. I'm almost embarrassed!

Loved it Sacratomato. You managed to get great shots of yourself in the mirror.

user8157 06/22/2007 #

Thanks! I took like 300 pictures, so there were some really scary shots, too. :-)
