Bible passages to read and reflect on this week:

1 Samuel Chapter 1 (The Key Passage is 1 Samuel 1:27-28)

Hannah prayed to the Lord for a child. She didn't just pray now and then. No, she wept and prayed earnestly and often. She prayed so fervently in the presence of Eli that the priest thought she was drunk. When Samuel was born, Hannah kept the vow that she had made. As soon as he was weaned, Hannah took him to Eli. She dedicated and gave Samuel to the Lord. After God had granted Hannah's desire for a child, she could have forgotten her promise. Don't you imagine she longed to keep her beloved son with her and watch him grow? This is a story of earnest prayer that availed much, and a vow kept.

For what had Hannah prayed? What shows us in these verses that she had prayed fervently and over an extended period of time?

What was her vow to the Lord, which she fulfilled when Samuel was born?

What do you long for and pray earnestly for? Is this prayer for something that can bring glory to God?
