Read the recommended Bible passages and the thought-provoking blurb below. Send your partner a letter or notecard answering the questions at the end of this post. Don't forget to pray and invite the Lord into your study time. Bible passages to read and reflect on this week: 1 Samuel Chapter 17 (The Key Passage is 1 Samuel 17:37) As a shepherd, David's job was to watch over the sheep. This job entailed fighting off wild animals that intended to kill the sheep. David had become skilled at his work. God had protected him. He had not died from a bear or lion attack, and for a shepherd, these were very real possibilities. What David had faced in his past enabled him to face a new challenge with confidence. But notice this: It was not David's confidence in himself or in his own strength or ability that led him to fight the giant. It was his trust in the Lord. "The Lord who delivered me...." was the one David bragged on, not himself. Look Back at your life. Where has God delivered you? God will use each of your experiences to prepare you for the next. Be prepared for a greater challenge that lies ahead. What gave Daivd the confidence to fight Goliath, the Philistine giant? What experiences have you had that give you confidence to face an unknown future with a known God? Did you have any other thoughts or questions from your study this week? Share your thoughts! | |
