🌍 Traveling Side Quest Journal Swap

Join the adventure! This is a traveling journal swap where each participant completes **1 - 2 side quests **, decorates a few pages, and then mails the journal to the next person in the next swap. The journal continues traveling from person to person until every page is filled. Once complete, it returns to the host for a final flip-through.

✨ Steps: What to Do

Your 1st Round

Prepare your journal

  • Use a mini composition book (3.25 in x 4.5 in).
  • Decorate the front cover.
  • Include your name and return address.
  • Choose one:

    • Leave the inside pages blank so each participant can decorate their own page, or
    • Pre-decorate the pages and have each participant simply complete their assigned side quest.
    • You may include a list of side quests for participants to choose from, or let each participant decide on their own side quest.

When you receive a journal

  • Complete 1 - 2 new side quest.
  • Decorate your assigned pages.
  • Hold onto the journal until the next swap round.

1. Pass it along

  • Mail the journal to the next participant during the next swap cycle.

2. Completion

  • The journal continues traveling until all pages are filled.
  • It is then returned to the host for a final reveal and flip-through.

🎯 Example Side Quests

  • Try a new coffee shop
  • Eat at a local restaurant you’ve never been to
  • Try a new snack or treat
  • Attend a concert or live event
  • Visit a new park or place in your town
  • Do something creative (paint, craft, write a poem)
  • Take a photo walk
  • Try a new hobby or class

📬 Swap Rules

  • Be kind, respectful, and encouraging.
  • Do not remove or cover other participants’ pages.
  • Keep all additions flat and mail-friendly.
  • Tracking is recommended but optional.
  • Communicate if mailing will be delayed.

⚠️ Participation Note

  • If you are in a remote area where mail delivery is unreliable please be mindful before joining.
  • Life happens, and that’s totally understandable; just please ensure the journal is passed along or returned to the original host if needed. *This challenge will run continuously, and you can jump in at any time to participate. If you decide to participate in the entire challenge, you will a completed Side Quest Journal.

IMPORTANT - COMMITMENT TO FUTURE ROUNDS

By joining this swap, you agree to continue participating in the upcoming rounds of the series whenever possible. Consistent participation helps every journal continue its journey and reduces the risk of journals becoming lost or forgotten.

Missing an occasional round is completely understandable—life happens! However, if you decide that you can no longer continue with the series, please contact me or the journal’s owner and arrange to return the journal directly to them.

This series is meant to be fun for everyone, so please join only if you are willing to make a reasonable commitment to future rounds. Leaving after only a few rounds without communicating can interrupt the journey and disappoint the journal’s owner and other participants.

Thank you for understanding!
