Description:

I ran this swap last spring with good success, so I thought I'd have another run at it.

A lot of us use vintage pages from books or magazines as part of our artwork, whether to make altered books or greeting cards or ATCs or collages or whatever! You will have one partner for this swap, and you will send him or her at least ten paper items of vintage material.

Pages that would work well for backgrounds might include foreign-language pages from books, old pieces of sheet music, or text out of old magazines. Choose some items that would work as design elements as well: maybe some old ads, maps, photos, postcards, comic strips, illustrations, cut-outs from magazines. The key word is vintage! Try to find images and pages that get your creative juices flowing so that you'll inspire your partner. Please make sure your ten pages are orginals, not copies or printouts. There's no minimum size for the items -- use your judgement and try to make sure you're sending something you'd like to get yourself. You should probably be using a 5x7 or 8x10 envelope. (Please don't fold the pages!) It probably won't cost anything else for shipping to add in some extras -- ten items is the minimum, but go nuts! You may be able to get an idea of what kind of things your partner would like from his or her profile. Try to send a variety -- not just ten pages out of the same book or magazine. No more than a couple of doubles.

I would suggest putting some cardstock or cardboard in with your pages to protect them during shipping.

This is an international swap. Everyone is welcome, but I'll ban anyone who seems like a flaker! If you're a newbie, please be sure your profile is filled out.

If anyone has any suggestions for sources of vintage paper, please post them here! I get a lot of material from a favourite used bookstore that has all kinds of antique books and ephemera. They have an "as-is" section that is full of falling-apart old books at bargain prices, most of which are full of great pages that are coming detached from the cover. I also look for old magazines, postcards, books, and photographs in antique shops.

is there a specific age to shoot for, like no books printed after a certain year? vintage can be different things to different people...

i dont have problems with this. And if you set an age will be very hard to get in. Cause I dont know the age of my pages. I think that a thing that face like vintage is able, like the Coke Adds from Eddie's Fine Burgers. They took the old idea and use this days! Its new, but looks like vintage!

I don't think we need to have a specific age -- hopefully people will send what feels vintage to them and their swap partners will like what they get!

Other items that are fun to look for are almanacs, dictionary pages and pages from old atlas, You sometimes can find them at thrift stores or auctions or yard sales or just ask grandma!
