Description:

I love scavenger hunts, and thought it would be fun to try and find books that fit certain criteria—colors, words, symbols, images, etc. I will continue this swap with a different set of scavenger hunt items each month.

I've had a lot of fun with these the past several months, and really appreciate everyone who has participated!!! :)

For the February swap, you will send your partner ONE book, from your own collection or from a used bookstore, thrift shop, etc. that contains all three items from the following list:

  1. In honor of Valentine’s Day, let’s get all touchy-feely… with our books, that is! :) Books need to have some kind of “texture”, either real or implied, on the front or back cover. There are several ways to do this: it can be a book with the entire cover made of an interesting material, like fabric, leather or vinyl (check those thrift shops!), or a paperback with an element of foil, glitter, or embossing on the cover, OR it can have an image of something that implies texture, such as a ribbon “wrapped” around the book, a fake wax seal, etc. Children’s board books often have fun textures, but preferably only send those if your partner actually has children in their life, or has expressed an interest in children’s books.

  2. The letters “ing” must appear together, in that order, somewhere on the front or back covers (waiting, wedding, best-selling, something, etc.)

  3. Either an image of a flower, or the word “flower” (or the name of any type of flower) must appear somewhere within the pages of the book.

Books can be any type or genre—fiction, biography, self-help, cook books, how-to, children’s, little “gifty” books, etc. Sender’s choice, but feel free to check your partner’s profile to get ideas or avoid specific dislikes.

To recap: you will have ONE partner and send them ONE book, but it needs to have all three scavenger hunt items represented in/on it (texture, flower, "ing.") Feel free to send Media Mail (particularly if your book is quite heavy), but do not include anything else in the package, other than the note tucked inside the book!

Books can (and most likely will) be gently used, but must be readable and clean.

PLEASE include a note describing where all three items can be found (if it’s not obvious), and anything you’d like to add about the book, your reaction to it (if you've read it), etc. Half the fun of book-swapping is discussing the books with our friends! :)

Unfortunately, I have to make this one US/Canada/Mexico only… mailing books overseas, especially heavy ones, can be super- expensive. :( But feel free to start an international version if you’d like!

The legal mumbo-jumbo: No recent ones or threes— please take care of your old swaps before signing up for new ones! Newbies (with less than 5 rated snail mail swaps) welcome with fully filled-out profile, but PLEASE PM me before signing up! I will automatically ban you if you skip this step! Please don’t sign up unless you’re committed to sending!!!

Enjoy!

January was a riot! I can't wait to hit the thrift store for February. No joke--this swap is my favorite since I joined. Thanks for hosting!

@LadyStephanie - Thanks, I hope you'll decide to join! :)

@katier - Awww... thanks! I'm so flattered that this is your favorite swap so far! :)

Id love to participate, but I noticed its a regional swap. Will you consider hosting one thats international in the future?

hydro75 01/21/2010 #

@lilarawker - I really wish I could, but if I have to mail something heavy overseas, it puts a huge dent in my postage budget for the month. :( Feel free to start your own int'l version if you like, though! And on months when I'm feeling a little more "spendy," I might even join! :)
