Description:

We've done lots of themed mix CD swaps here on SB, and let's be honest... lots of times you end up with a bunch of songs that aren't really to your tastes. So this is the first in a series of swaps in which we will be trading mix CDs of a particular musical genre, to hopefully increase the number of songs you get that you love!

This genre swap is for ELECTRONICA (simply because that happens to be my favorite ;) This is a broad term that is confused with and debated upon in relation to terms such as "electronic music", "electro", and "electronic dance music". Wikipedia is so confused on how to label things, it won't be much help, so don't bother looking there =p

For the purposes of this swap, here is what I DO consider "electronica":

  • Any form of techno or synth-heavy dance music
  • Clubby dance music (Fatboy Slim, Groove Armada, etc)
  • Electro (Ladytron, etc)
  • Industrial
  • Synthpop
  • EBM/IDM (VNV Nation, Apoptygma Berzerk, etc)
  • Experimental music made with electronic instruments
  • Drum N' Bass/Jungle
  • Breakbeat
  • Ambient or chillout music that relies mostly on electronic sounds, not acoustic instruments.

Here is what I do NOT consider electronica:

  • Metal
  • Disco
  • Top-40 pop music that is remixed for a club, unless it is vastly more techno-like than the original
  • R&B
  • Acoustic or non-synthetic songs by traditionally electronic bands (Depeche Mode, for instance, has a number of non-synth songs these days)

If you have any questions about whether a particular song will fit into this genre, please message me and I'll give you my opinion. As far as I'm concerned, time period of the music is not an issue-- feel free to use early 80s synthpop or experimental electronica from the 60s, for instance.

Remember this is a MIX cd. So please try to include a variety of electronica music-- not just all happy hardcore, for instance, or all slow ambient.

Now for the nitty gritties:
* Electronica songs can be of notoriously varying lengths, so no limits on the number of songs. But again, remember that this is a variety mix cd... a disc with just two 40-minute Tangerine Dream songs is not going to be very interesting.

__ You MUST rate according to the following policies, set up by Swap-Bot:__
* 5 if you receive the item within two weeks of the send date, and it meets qualifications (if you have questions about whether the CD you received met qualifications, please message me.)
* 3 If you received the item but it was later than two weeks, or did not meet qualifications
* 1 if you received nothing. (Do try to contact your partner and work something out before giving them a 1, however.)

HEARTS ARE GIVEN OUT AT YOUR DISCRETION, FOR WHATEVER REASON YOU CHOOSE.

You must have a 4.5 or higher rating to join, with no recent 1s. If you do not meet these criteria, you may message me to explain your circumstances and we might be able to work it out. I know things happen, but I don't want anyone to get flaked on, and I WILL be banning anyone who doesn't meet these criteria and does not offer a good explanation.

I am making this international, because CDs are cheap to mail and being introduced to new music from foreign places can be really exciting!

If you have any questions, please message me or leave them here on the forum. I will be checking in here frequently.

HAVE FUN! GET BLEEPIN' AND BLOOPIN'! :D

What a cool swap! I personally know almost nothing about this particular genre. If anyone would be interested in making a "Introduction to Electronica" type CD, I'd love to hear from you! I feel certain that this is a genre that I could get into if given the right stuff to start off with..
