Description:

For me, yesterday was terrible. I had a migraine and was home all day with a loud, bouncy 2 y/o. Yeah, it could have been worse, but for me, my day was crappy. Finally, when my husband got off of work around 8pm, I took a nice hot bath. I thought to myself "Wow. I wish I could have an "In Case of A Bad Day" box. Something I could open when I have a bad day, and everything in there would help cheer me up".

So here's a swap ^-^

We are going to make each other (you'll have one partner) an "In Case of A Bad Day" box. You'll take a nice box and decorate it. Then, you'll fill it with things that will help someone on a bad day. Some things to include could be: a mix cd, candles, bath bombs, a poem, a stuffed animal, lotion, warm fuzzy socks, tea, CHOCOLATE...etc. The main idea is you want to make a box to spoil your partner when they have a terrible day.

Here's the cool part (I think at least), once you're partner sends you your box, you CANNOT open it...until you have a bad day. See my idea? Hopefully, it will be weeks and weeks before you have open it. But, the point of this swap is to have something there, a surprise, for when you have a bad day.

Alright, here's the fine print: Since this is a swap designed to spoil and uplift someone, please have high ratings. No newbies. No one who has unfilled out profiles. There's plenty of time between now and the sign up date to get great ratings. No no sends. Frankly, the last thing someone would want on a bad day is to open their box and find junk or nothing in it at all. I'm afraid this may get slightly pricey between sending a decorated box and filling it. I'm thinking $15-20. Please, do fill these boxes. At least 5 things. Handmade things are wonderful too. Take care to design these boxes to cheer up, uplift and spoil your partner when they have a terrible day.

Please, feel free to contact me, busym0mmy, if you have any questions.

I love this idea. I'll be having lots of weepy "empty nest" days after delivering my only child to college in a few weeks. I'll definitely need cheering up.

Ratings will be tough if we don't open the box for a while. I assume we rate 5 if we receive a box, the change the rating if it contains junk or deserves a heart?

Is this an international swap?

frumplebarry 08/ 7/2007 #

Jessie - Exactly that. 5 if you receive a box and you can change it later. Though, I will admit I don't know how long you have to change ratings...

YS - I think I will make it international. At first, I was going to keep it local, but I'm in a crazy mood! :-D

Also, I was thinking we should talk about what cheers us up and things we like in the comments. I really want these boxes to be the best they can possibly be!!

I would like to join but I think International might get too expensive since I would want to include too many goodies :)

I LOVE the idea/concept of this swap! Can't wait!!

this is such a sweet idea! i dont know which i like better, making someone an awesome box, or getting one in return for a bad day! :)

Ok, Busym0mmy suggested that we mention what cheers us up when we're having a bad day. The thing that works quickest for me is to laugh: so, any kind of comics, or silly pictures of a puppy, or short stories that are funny (David Sedaris is a riot!). Chocolate is a sure thing, but I am afraid that it would melt on its way to my house in Florida . . . :-(

Any small freebie snack or travel-size cosmetic makes me happy since I like to try new things. Or a recipe. Or a beautiful photograph or piece of printed paper. Any craft supply, of course!

Please do share what makes you smile when you are having a bad day . . . I can't wait for the partners to be assigned - its going to be a lot of fun!

this is a perfect swap for me. i'm having assessments now and everyday is a bad (or poor, at least) day. too bad i don't have the time to gather everything now! but i hope there'll be a part 2 to this and hopefully i'll have more time to spare then :)

this is great, I'm back at work tomorrow after having my last full summer off (my job got changed from term time only to all year round) I've got a new line manager who can be challenging and my partner is off on a theatre tour in a couple of weeks so I'm planning ahead for a bad day or two!

things that make me happy- having a bath while eating chocolate and reading a magazine (something crafty, trashy or Martha Stuartish). Having a cup of tea and trying out a new (or old) craft, cute note books, leg warmers and recipes.

Things that make me happy when I'm having a tough day: chocolate, bubble baths, journal-writing, making crafts (esp. papercrafts), reading a good book, listening to music, browsing through a magazine, drinking herbal tea (favourite flavours include mint, ginger, chai, jasmine), writing with colourful pens, wearing warm fuzzy socks.

However, pretty much anything I receive will make me happy!

can't wait! i started a new job last week after being at home crafting and hanging with my cats for the past 7 months. my job is really relaxed and casual but i have to take the tube to central london everyday and it's been HELL lately!

things that make me happy... nature, the ocean, photos or things i can put on my walls, stuffies, nic naks, etc. please no bath products my skin is really sensitive. :)

This is such a good idea! So glad you thought of this busym0mmy! I am overseas and away from my family for at least the next six months so this will help a lot!

The thing that cheers me up the most is finding something to do (even if it's just the ironing and a DVD!), keeping my hands and mind busy.

Other things that cheer me up... chocolate (especially Cadbury, Tim Tams and Mint Slice biscuits)... ATC supplies... interesting photos.. cookie cutters.. guinea pigs and pound puppies... tealight candles (especially the ones scented like strawberry, vanilla, sandalwood or musk).. letters and postcards... I have no bath, so no bath stuff please!

Can't wait to get paired up and make up my partner's box!

My profile should give you a pretty good idea of what I like, but here are some things that are sure to cheer me up.

Something sweet. Chocolate is always a safe bet, Milk Duds especially (can´t buy them here). Also anything minty, chewy or dark.

Something beautiful to look at, maybe a pretty photo or a candle. Anything old or thrifted would be great, too.

Something to cut, glue or sew like paper, fabric or buttons.

I like to wallow a bit, so anything that would help me do that would be nice. Surprises are also very welcome!
