Description: | |
We will swapping handmade thaumatropes (aka twirly whirlies). A thaumatrope is a very early form of animation. It is a disk of cardboard with a picture on each side. String is threaded through holes on opposite sides of the disk and when you pull the strings and twirl the disk, an allusion blending both pictures appears. The classic example is a picture of a bird and a picture of a birdcage, when spun becomes a bird IN a birdcage. This is a pattern you can use if you need one: http://www.ntguides.com/PDF_Documents/BirdCage.pdf (of course, I expect you to think up your own allusion, not use the bird and birdcage in this pattern) Use collage, paint, stickers, glitter, fabrics, etc to artsy it up. Think what allusion you can create. Make it vintage-looking, make it new and hip, anything you like! We will be making three and getting three back. These are simple to make and fun to play with! And easy to mail in an envelope with a stamp or maybe two if yours is particularly heavy. If you have more than one "no show" or feedback less than 3, I will remove you from this swap and hope that you make good on your past swaps. |
