Oh gather ye 'round and let me tell you a tale of times gone by and the people who dwelt, living happily and heartily and sometimes mischievously, but nonetheless they are our subjects most readily! So, ladies and gentlemen, our subjects or theme for this series is The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer. Now some people may think these tales may be boring, but not so! Some are quite hilarious and read like a medieval soap opera and at the time they were considered very scandalous indeed! The requirements are this... Since I am not requiring folks to read these stories you may get your inspiration from the title's name as well, like in this one as long as it has something that relates to the tale or the Pardoner's situation you should be good. You can even use quotes from the tales on your ATC, or whatever inspires you! This time, I am printing the summary below since it is brief and and, I think, a good story! Summary of the Pardoner's Tale: Three drunken and debauched men set out from a pub to find and kill Death, whom they blame for the death of their friend, and all other people that previously have died. An old man they brusquely query tells them they can find death at the foot of a tree. When the men arrive at the tree, they find a large amount of gold coins and forget about their quest to kill Death. They decide that they cannot just take the coins in broad daylight, but rather wait until night and steal the money then. The three men draw straws to see who among them should fetch wine and food while the other two wait under the tree. The youngest of the three men drew the shortest straw. The two men who stay behind secretly plot to kill the other one when he returns, while the one who leaves for the town poisons some of the wine with rat poison. When he returns with the food and drink, the other two kill him and drink the poisoned wine — also dying (and finding Death, as per the old man's directions) as a result. There are many entertaining stories collected within the tales and there are 8 tales that are popular. (I know that technically there are many more tales from the other fragments but these 8 are the most well known)! So, we will be doing 8 total swaps to cover each of the tales. I will be trying to host an ATC each month or two for this series. This is the 5th ATC of this series. You will make 1 ATC for each of your two partners for a total of 2 ATC's. You may hand draw, use collage, paint, stamp, markers, fabric, embellishments, whatever you can think of to express your creativity for these tales. Please no recent or unexplained 1's for this swap, rating of 4.9 or higher please. If you are going to be late with a swap please pm your partner! If you have a question or comment please pm me or leave it below. I will angel if need be for this swap should anyone flake. Happy swapping to you! Let the storytelling commence!!! |
