Description:

In a few days, it'll be four years since we lost Steve Irwin. He was kind of crazy, but crazy awesome, wholly dedicated to his passion, and did more to educate and encourage people about wildlife and wildlife conservation than anyone in decades. He was controversial, but a lot of us loved him--and his crocs. I've been a wildlife rehabber for three and a half years, in no small part due to his influence. (And yes, I've been known to exclaim, "Crikey, she's a beaut!" or "Look out, he's heeeooouuuuge!" when picking up a baby possum.)

So let's celebrate his legacy the Swap-Bot way!

  • You'll send one ATC or bookmark each to two partners. Sender's choice, but it never hurts to look at your partner's profile.

  • The ATC/bookmark can be about Steve, his family, his show, his crocodiles, or crocodiles in general. Basically anything tasteful (eg, no stingrays jokes) that makes you think fondly of Steve.

  • The ATC must be of your own making. No sending on an ATC someone already sent you and claiming you made it! If you have one someone else made you want to pass on as an extra, that's fine, but please leave the original maker's information intact.

  • ATCs, must be be 2.5" by 3.5" or vice versa. Bookmarks can be any size. Both should have a base that is no less than cardstock thickness; durability is key, especially for bookmarks.

  • Use any method and elements you like to make it. Painting, drawing, stamping, collage, whatever. (Anything computer printed should be high quality printing.)

  • If you want to use Steve Irwin quotes, here's a pretty good source for some.

  • No sticker/stamp slapping! You can use either of course, but don't just slap a stamp/cutout/sticker on a sheet of paper and call it done. We're artists and craftsmen here, put some love into it! :)

  • 4.8 minimum; please PM me to explain any recent 1's or 3's.

  • Newbies welcome with at least 5 completed mail swaps, 10 positive ratings and a decently filled out profile.

Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions. Thanks!

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Damn you Kay. You know I don't do public swaps. This is tough. I truly admired this man. What to do? Hmmmm. I'll keep thinking about it. If I decide to join....am I allowed in? I think I've explained my two 3s. Maybe. Let me know.

The first thing that made my heart melt was seeing him SO excited to see cougar poo. What a guy. :(

Viva... VIIIIVVAAA.... You want in (and your 3's are fine). You know I will personally angel you if you get flaked on!

One of the things I remember most about Steve is when he was in an area that was being scorched with brush fires, and he was running into and out of these smouldering, smokey, burning areas (not like huge flames shooting up, but still dangerous) to rescue lizards. Not big iguanas, not fancy snakes, just the resident lizards, any he could find. If I remember right he got some mild burns on his hand and inhaled a lot of smoke, but he managed to get a few of those fellows out before they had to move on.

That was long after I'd become a fan, but it just said so much to me about him.

DarkSkull, I watched it every chance I got, but you know... Since he died, I haven't been able to watch it. I still watch Jeff Corwin whenever I can, though, but I have bad luck catching his show on TV.

I loved Steve Irwin, he changed my life for the best and made me who I am today. I also study herpetology and Im a wildlife rescuer and rehabilitator for the state of NY. I miss him so much, his shows and spirit live on always. I wish I could join this swap but I have no talent when it comes to ATC's being that Im new to them, best of wishes to all the swappers that join :)

I loved Steve and actually had the pleasure of meeting him at his zoo in Oz. I am watching for now but @KayAnders would it be okay if I joined? ((My account is less then a month old))

@Trutlepug26 @theladylilac I also made this swap for Steve Irwin lovers who are not ATC makers, or who don't yet qualify for this swap:

I hope it'll suit you!

I was on a train trip out west (going on my first and only cruise -- to Alaska) when I read of Steve Irwin's death. A day or two later I visited the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle (one of the BEST zoos in the whole country). They had a huge wonderful memorial at the entrance gate. Steve Irwin was one of the best animal ambassadors ever! His legacy will live on and his family will carry on his work. A life lived truly well.
