Description:

This swap idea came from the creative minds of @Mar1l1ze & @TheArtfulDogger in our group forum!

For this swap, we will send 3 envelopes made from vintage ephemera to 2 partners, for a total of 6 envies! (We'll also receive 6 fab vintage ephemera envelopes :) I'd love to swap more, but I thought 6 was a do-able number for most members. If joiners agree, we can up the number of envies and/or swap partners!

The envies can be any size, as long as they are mailable. They must be made from 3 different sources, i.e. an encyclopedia, a map, sheet music, book, etc. In other words, please don't make 3 envelopes from the same book. You can make identical sets for your partners, as long as each partner receives different envies. They do not have to be lined, as long as they are fairly sturdy. Since they are made from vintage papers, some might be more fragile than others depending on age.

To me, vintage is 1979 or earlier. If anyone disagrees, please post below & I can edit the swap as necessary. If anyone needs envelope template sources, please post a comment below. I'd be happy to add links :)

Usual group swap rules apply; no 1's, 3's or no-sends in the last 2 months. I may be willing to angel if necessary; anyone else? PM me with questions. YAY vintage!!

Oh, @iLoveMail - you had me at hosting - teehee :)

I can comfortable do 5 envies per parner...

A way to make the envies more sturdy is to line them with another page (assuming if we go this way it does not need to be vintage, but matching would be nice.). For instance, if you are doing a map envie, lining it with a blue / green matching sheet on the inside will make it 'thicker' and thus more durable.

If you feel this takes away from the aim of the swap @iLoveMail you can obviously tell me to take a ride :)

Fun! Thanks for hosting.

I can do more envelopes, but would prefer to include some actual ephemera as an extra rather than more envies. Just my 2 cents. :)

Thanks so much for your input ladies, as always! We'll see if anyone else joins & what they think. I'm fine with any or all of the above :)

Ooohhh, I like the 'leaving space for other ephemera' idea...

Personally, I like the three for each partner idea, since my time art time is limited.

Question, are we allowed to decorate the envelopes with vintage stamps, embellishements (mail-safe, of course), or are we just folding up a vintage sheet of paper?

AndreaJ 01/19/2011 #

I'm watching right now to make sure I don't over-extend myself. BUT I must comment... I object to the idea that vintage is anything before 1979 only because, I GRADUATED before 1979! Damn! That makes me vintage, right? :D

Great swap! I will try to set aside some time to make some envies!

iLoveMail 01/20/2011 #

@SherriB - this time around, its just turning a piece of vintage paper/ephemera into an envie. I plan to host another swap where we decorate/alter envies in a shabby chic style (as I PM'd you about)

@AndreaJ - I don't actually know when something becomes vintage, I just put 1979 or before as a guideline! I was born before then, if that makes you feel any better? hehehe (sorry :)

If it means more joiners, I'll keep the swap as is so we can all get a few vintage envies!
