Description:

This swap is for the infamous Dotee Doll. Since it’s a busy time for a lot of swappers we’ll just do one doll for one partner right now.

I am making this international. The dolls are small and lightweight. They fit into small bubble envies and ship overseas with relative ease to the pocketbook.

If you don’t know much about Dotee Dolls, don’t feel alone. I just found out about them myself in the last couple weeks. I’ve included some links that should help.

To see some photos of finished Dotees check out these flickr photos

In the interest of spontaneity and creative flow I’m not assigning a theme nor should you feel it necessary to match your partners profile. Choose some materials that appeal to you and go with it!

Please feel free to change the shape or style of your doll according to your own expression, but make sure it has an attached face, tail and loop hanger. Let’s keep the size somewhat uniform and do them in the 3-6 inch range (finished size).

The Dotee in the photo is one that I made. I don’t like embellishing on a stuffed front surface so I embellish through the two layers of fabric then add a felt backing which I stuff and hand sew into place.

Now for the rest of it – Although this is my first time hosting I have been swapping here for more than a year. I’m familiar with the way things work. What I’ve discovered is that determining a swappers risk isn’t a simple number.

I’ll be checking ratings, swap history and swap comments when deciding which swappers will be allowed to participate. If you aren’t a well established swap-bot swapper you’ll need a filled out profile AND you’ll need to provide me with links to other pertinent information that would help determine that you are a reliable swapper. i.e. other swap sites where you have participated, photo streams that show a history of your work, recommendations from swap-bot members in good standing.

If you have questions or concerns please message or email.

Happy swapping!!!

Hag This is such a wonderful swap idea! I haven't finished my first one yet, but I already love the little sweeties! I'm definately in this one! Marlene

These are so much fun to make but I just have too much to do between now and Christmas. If you do another one in the new year, I will be in! Good luck!

Thanks TwistersMom! They are just so much fun to make aren't they? Glad you're in!

I understand TerryF. I will be running them and hopefully so will others so there will be plenty to choose from. Thanks for looking and for commenting.

My dear Hag53, you have the most wonderful attitude about participation qualifications that I have ever seen on Swap-Bot. You are so right, it isn't "a simple number" that determines a good swapper. Thank you for your incredibly sane and fair attitude.

And, thank you for the swap! I just read about Dotee Dolls and I can't wait to start creating them. I'm trying to come up with a masculine version for my nephews.

HeideC 11/ 4/2007 #

I can't wait to start making these! I think a small tree decorated with these will be on my desk at work this year.

Hag53 11/ 4/2007 #

Thank you for the compliment, postmuse, but in all fairness it is from watching and listening to all the wonderful hostesses that I have come to the conclusions I have about the risks.

Wow, I hope you'll post photos of a masculine version! I haven't even thought about that yet, although I have a nephew who would love one.

Thanks for joining. I think we are going to have a lot of fun!

HeideC - Oh, yeah! hanging on a tree feels like a great idea. I've started some in winter and holiday fabric for decoration on the Christmas/Yule tree already. I just love them! Mostly I love the way I just choose some fabric and matching felt - then just sit and try one thing after another. I went shopping today and found some perfect holiday ribbons and of course some more beads! So glad you have you HeideC.

yippee! I just finished my first Dotee doll!

These dolls are adorable--I can't wait to try making some. What a great way to use small bits of nice fabric languishing in my craft closet!!

Hag53 11/ 6/2007 #

Fantastic Ozrob!!!

PoMoGolightly, they are so adorable. I have been using bits and pieces of fabric, however last weekend I went fabric shopping and bought quarters just for dotees! Gezz.. how crazy can you get? But in my defense I bought a bundle of extremely girly spring flowers in light spring colors. I won't use them right now, but come the depths of Feb in these Vermont mountains will find me making spring dotees!!

I've been wanting to make one ever since I first saw them a few weeks ago, they are so adorable! I just went out and purchased materials today so this is perfect :)

I'm afraid I can see myself getting hooked on making these little dolls too. I am a newbie without a rating yet and am working on finishing up my Faces ATCs before I sign up for this swap and hopefully, be accepted. I will be making one of these Dotees and posting it on my blog to show that I mean business. LOL.

Very cool halfwaythere!

Denise 11/11/2007 #

Does 6 inches include the tail or are we just measuring the body???

Hag53 11/12/2007 #

I meant body length should be somewhere in the 3-6 inch range so if the tail makes it longer that shouldn't be a problem.
