Description:

I've gotta say, I REALLY miss SoulSwirl's Alt Cult minizine swaps!! :( He seems to have taken a break from hosting the last few months. So fed up with waiting for his triumphant return, I'm gonna try my hand at hosting a monthly zine swap for those of us less interested in recipes, fluffy bunnies and people's favorite colors of the rainbow.

First, I want you to, no, NEED you to free your mind. Take all that is ugly, not fit for the public eye - pretty much everything you've been holding in and use it to fuel a glorious, free, new mini zine. Zines are all about spreading a message to say something that really matters to you, nobody can censor you or tell you you're not good enough.

You can choose to convey your message through Illustration, Photography, Collage or whatever you can get your grubby hands on. Send your zine to 3 partners.

Zine template how-to: http://www.knowledgeup.com/2007/11/05/diy-mini-8-page-pocket-zine/

Although, you're welcome to make your zine layout however you like! don't feel like you have to use this template.

I don't think I can state rating requirements any better than SoulSwirl did:

"This SWAP is open to anyone with a rating. I don''t care if someone rated you a 2 for sending them an old dusty shoe after you fell behind from tending to your sick dog or the sibling whom you had to lock in a cage in the basement cause they kept trying to eat your arm. I don't angel and you are responsible for sending something to your partner, be it a note of apology or a funeral card telling them that you've died and cannot fulfill your reSWAPonsability. Please don't do the swap unless you can send it out. We don't need no crying children in the streets."

Perfect. I've got at least 4 zines that want making. I need them out of my head so the compulsions can stop. You'll see. (My 3 partners, that is.)

I noticed you didn't say what constitutes mini-zine dimensions, so should I assume A7? i.e., a sheet of A4 divided (folded) into eighths? And is it just meant to be made of one sheet of A4/letter-size, or can you make it as thick as a phone directory if you need to? Just wondering if 'mini' refers to the dimensions alone or also the content limit.

Thanks in advance for your answer. Really keen to get started planning mine.

Cool, we're so glad to have you. I kinda really hope I get you for a partner now!

Yes, that's exactly what I meant for the default zine demensions- although other ways of making a zine are more than welcome. I'll add an example template to the swap description. I usually put two sheets together for my zines but you're welcome to go crazy. I don't want there to be too many rules and restrictions here. I only made this a mini-zine swap opposed to a full on zine swap so people arn't as intimidated about joining and cranking out zines in two weeks. for me, thats a lot of time but some people are busy.
