Hi, I'm Nancy! I'm 38, married, and childless by choice. Well, married and childless by choice, apparently I have no say in the 38 thing. I'm a freelance wine and copy writer. My husband and I live in southern Vermont with two dogs and a cat. We like to host exchange students and for our next adventure we'll take on is hosting a Fresh Air Fund kid this coming summer.
All swaps are marked as "sent" upon popping them in the mail but I live in a rural area with no set pickup time so if I put something in my mailbox Wednesday there's a good chance it won't get picked up until Thursday. Same with going to the post office - I mark it as the day I go even if the pickup won't be until the next day.
If you are expecting something from me and it's late please contact me - I'm usually early on my swaps so if you haven't received it chances are there is a problem.
If you're running late just let me know - despite my personal neuroses about deadlines I'm very chill ;o)
Mail art, card making, pocket letters, creative planning.
I'm not much of an artist or very crafty but I love writing letters and making cards and mail art.
Special Topics In Calamity Physics, The Giver, The Secret History, The Little Prince, Fortress of Solitude, Please Ignore Vera Dietz, As She Climbed Across The Table, The Hottest State, Ethan Frome.
I like indie, foreign, and documentary films. I generally don't like movies that most people like which is not intentional and for which I catch much grief. For example, I think "Good Will Hunting" is one of the worst movies ever made. My husband may have considered not marrying me because of this and my friend, Michael, always looks at me and says, "It's not your fault!". I just don't get it. My two very favorite movies are "Amalie" and "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" (and I just realized that that would be an insane mashup so I put them in quotes). I won't list the rest of them.
Jim Croce, Lobo, James Taylor, Ingrid Michaelson, Christine Kane, Jenny O., My Morning Jacket, Deathcab For Cutie, Midlake, Fleet Foxes, Chopin, Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Rachmaninoff, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, The Cure, Morrissey, Portishead, Charlatans UK, Stone Roses, Alannis Morissette, Ani Difranco, Sarah MacLachlan, Hem, Dawes, Low Anthem, Iron & Wine, Budos Band, Taylor Swift, M. Ward, Avett Brothers, Band of Horses, Nouvelle Vogue, Spandau Ballet, Gers Pardoel, Post Modern Jukebox, Jose Gonzalez, The Cranberries, Lisa Loeb
Current: The Americans, House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Amazing Race, Pretty Little Liars.
Over Now: Dexter*, Lost*, The Killing, The Following*, Twin Peaks
My favorite show of all time is Seinfeld.
*The endings of these show make me want to punch someone in the face.
Serial, Missing Maura Murray, Limetown, The Black Tapes Podcast, The Message, Mysterious Topics
Please do not send me religious items. The only exception is if we're penpals - then I want to know all about your faith if it's a part of your identity but for regular swaps let's keep it secular.
I appreciate EVERYTHING that is sent to me whether it's home made, picked up at the dollar store or repurposed. I have an album of my letters divided by person and I love it.
I'm a minimalist and don't like to have a ton of stuff. Because of this, I often reuse items in my card making/mail art endeavors. The best thing I can get is a letter in a cool envelope - love mail art! There are, of course, two exceptions...
4a. When it comes to envelope art, letter writing, card making, etc. I can't get enough supplies!
4b. I LOVE Lush - if you have a lush near you and treat yourself and the spirit moves you, ask for a free sample and pop it my way. I'll totally be your best friend :)
I love getting recipes. If you send me a recipe I am going to make it, take pictures of it, and send you a detailed account of everything from what music I listened to while making it to the wine I served with it.
My older dog will sniff out even the best packaged food and get to it, destroying anything in her path. Unfortunately she is on a crazy restricted diet, too. If you really want to send me a treat, please just message me ahead of time - this way I can be prepared to immediately open it and put the food someplace secure.
If you are an international swapper I'm sending to and there is something you want that you can't get in your country (ie. Peanut Butter Oreos), just let me know - I love sending things people are really itching for even when they are totally unrelated to the swap.
I love when people include a little note about themselves even if the swap doesn't require it. Tell me your weird quirks or what you had for breakfast or how you never wear matching socks. Tell me about the best cat you ever had or your favorite blanket or the street in your town you avoid because no one ever pays attention to the stop sign. I'm a collector of things about people (comes with being a writer).
I love the outdoors... I hike and geocache as much as I can (at least a week if not more). Rainy days, sunny days, snowy days... nature is awesome. Whether it's swimming with the dogs in the summer or tromping through snow in the winter the outdoors totally feeds my soul.
Paper crafts are my favorite - mail art, pocket letters, card making.
I have and LOVE a Create 365 Happy Planner. It's a great way for me to keep my life in an accessible, easy, color-coded format that opens and lies flat. That is huge to me. It doesn't take much.
I don't like bananas. At all. The smell, the taste... blech. Just thinking about bananas makes me gag.
I don't expect anyone to seek out these things but in case you are looking for inspiration... these are the items on my wish list:
.Washi Tape - especially 70's whimsical designs .Cool buttons .An Embossing marker .Ephemera, especially heavier stuff made of cardstock or similar materials .Anything map themed .Anything public transportation themed .Pretty papers .Mechanical pencils, especially fat ones .Le Pen pens .Planner goodies .A gently used arc punch .Anything from Lush

Hello dear Nancy!
This comment is for: the online swap: "Read my Profile and leave a nice comment"
I am Valerie from Belgium, nice to meet you! :-)
The one thing that excited me the most from your profile is nr. 7 from your 'Swapping with me' section. There are a lot of lovely sweets from the USA (especially the ones with peanut butter :D) we don't have available in our country. I think it's so absolutely sweet from you to are willing to send them abroad. I believe most of the swap-botters is from the USA (I could be wrong), but I've never seen anyone write that in their profile! :-) So I really noticed, haha.
My girlfriend really likes embossing too, but she doesn't know what an 'embossing marker' is. Most likely it's because English is not our native language, but would you mind explaining it to us? :-)
I had a look on your Pinterest board as well! I love your mail art :) Decided to follow you immediately.
What is actually a wine writer? I kinda guess it is like a wine reviewer? If that's true, that sounds like my dream job, lol! I absolutely looove wine and I wished I only knew more about it. I searched online to follow a course for wine tasting, but I could only find really expensive ones which I unfortunatelly can't afford. Thanks to you I learned about the winedom.com website, which I really like. Thank you!
Hmm, I guess my comment is already getting a bit too long, sorry about that. I'll end here and just wish you and your partner & animals a very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year! :-D
Kindest regards
Valerie (Jadelynn)
I just randomly did it to! I thought it was weird but I'm glad to hear it isn't!
I did but I can't say I was a fan :( I am in love with their Forever Nuts though. Hmm I'm not sure what you would be sensitive too but that sucks :( At least you found some stuff you like though!

Hey Nancy!
I have to say, it was a real delight to read through your profile! As I am no native english speaker, I sometimes get troubled reading profiles as people tend to write just as it pops out of their minds. But it was really simple and entertaining to read yours, you have a really nice way to write, I bet you write great letters :)
I wish you a very beautiful holiday and a happy new year :)
Best! Vanessa
Merry Christmas and happy new year!
Thanks for having me! I'm excited about a cache swap as well! I happened upon it and I was literally thrown back. Two of my favorite things smashed together. What a great idea. I told some of the local cachers about it. So it's posted on Facebook cache groups. Thanks for hosting. :)
Reading through your profile, I snickered in recognition: I, too, hate movies others cherish, first and foremost, The Princess Bride. I always feel like I must be missing some essential schmalz gene or something. I'll be mailing you a postcard soon! Take care. -Rhonda
Hi Nancy,
Got your mail art envelope today. You did a great job on it, and it was definitely better than mine!
As far as true crime goes, I like to read about pretty much anything. Serial killers, cults, unsolved murders, missing people, etc, etc. I lurk a lot on Websleuths and the Unresolved Mysteries reddit. I'm really interested in the psychology of why people do the things they do.
I had been listening to that Missing Maura Murray podcast, but I've missed the last two or three installments and need to catch up. It's interesting to speculate about cases like that. Hopefully one day we will find out what really happened to her.
My "pet" cases are Jack the Ripper and Cindy James. There's still a little hope for figuring out who Jack was because so many people are interested in it, but with Cindy James most people don't even know who she was or just think she was nuts and killed herself. If you haven't heard about her case it is very interesting, and there are a couple of books out there that you can still find used.
Thanks again for your letter, and I would love to reply!
Reminder/Encouragement: Keep working on those NaNo revisions!
Be my guinea pig #3, when can we be expecting? I love them!
Glad you like my 'creep me out' comment on my profile. I'm kinda blunt and odd like that. :) Hope you have a super cool New Year! <3
