Hi my name is Santhy. I'm a malaysian, I'm half chinese & half nepalese. I have been a vegetarian for more than 10 years. I'm currently in Leeds, UK. I graduated as civil & structural engineer in year 2006. Even though my job may sound a bit technical, I'm quite girly, I think. Since I was in primary school, I've collected lots of stickers, bookmarks & other kawaii/cute stuff. I find it easier to find those cute stuff while I was in Malaysia than in the UK.
My first encounter of swapping stuff was when I met this girl in the english tuition school that I was attending when I was around 8 years old. It was my first ever swap & I was told to get some stuff and wrap them up in gift wrap in order to exchange with her. I remembered wrapping up each item individually, e.g wrapping a pencil on its own, a rubber on its own, a pack of crisp on its own... I was mortified when she presented hers to me, everything wrapped in a big parcel. That's how my first ever swap goes & I love it ever since.
I've accumulated quite a lot of cute stuff from primary school to high school when we were the primary target of mail-order gift companies & we used to gather orders from classmates in order to save the postage and get discounts. After finishing high school, I had to leave my hometown to further study in a college in another city, that's when those cute stuff that i had before start missing gradually as time goes by. My belongings are being moved to the garage to give ways to my uncle's children who are growing fast with whom I was living with...
The last time I went back to my home town for chinese new year in late january after having to stay in the UK for the past 5 years to finish my degree, I tried to find all the cute stuff that i've patiently accumulated over the years to bring them with me to UK but i could only find a few. I kept thinking I've grown up so I shouldn't be fond of those stuff anymore, but ever since I've joined Flikr & saw all those cute stuff again & I guess there's always a child in me. Sometimes I even dream of stepping into a kawaii store in my sleep & waking up feeling really disappointed as it wasn't real, that's how much i value those kawaii/cute stuff, so I'm joining this swap bot to relive part of my childhood dream. :D
