I'm a crazy cat lady at heart - I've had up to 11 foster kittens at a time! But haven't been fostering for a few years now and just have my one senior kitty and a crazy quail. I live on the beautiful island of Kauai and am into all things tropical. Pink is my first, second and third favorite color, followed by TARDIS blue in 4th place. Other than being a Whovian, I adore Harry Potter (I'm a Ravenclaw, so the blue works there, as well.) While there are plenty of other things I enjoy, those are the only two I collect. Space is tight if you live in Hawaii and aren't a millionaire. LOL! Oh, I also collect fun decks of playing cards because I love to play Nertz (and everyone needs a unique deck of cards.)
I'm fortunate enough to work from home, doing admin for a small online shop. I also make jewelry and ornaments out of recycled aluminum cans. I recently started playing with resin and am in love with it, so I'll be working some of that into my jewelry soon, too. I'm happily single and in my early 50s. Love to laugh but not really into crude humor. Can't draw to save my life but decided to take some online painting classes during Covid lockdown and was surprised to discover that I really enjoyed it.
Update: I had surgery Dec 29th. I knew I needed it but when it happened, it happened pretty fast. So I spent 2 weeks doing a bunch of unexpected medical appointments and testing, then I was down for recovery. I'm still recovering (Jan 5th) but can sit up and get some stuff done now. So Dec swap deadlines took a hit and I honestly deserve a couple 3s, so I won't be surprised if they show up. But I'm getting everything caught up now (including a couple that I sent on time but never arrived. I know the Post Office was overwhelmed during the holidays but it really is frustrating!) A huge mahalo (thank you) to those of you who were patient with me through the insanity! I received presents from family but the only ones I actually got to unwrap were from stocking stuffer swaps I did with YOU. You made a Christmas alone so much better and I appreciate it so much!
I have quite a few books that I'll read over and over: LOTR and The Hobbit, Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, Sherlock, among others. I love anything by Agatha Christie. For non-fiction, Zig Ziglar is my man!
Harry Potter, of course
Almost anything Disney/Pixar, but especially Monsters, Inc, Moana and Up.
Casablanca
Dirty Dancing
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Poirot
I don't see new movies. I pretty much just watch older stuff on Netflix or Amazon Prime.
Looking at my craft stash, you would swear I'm a scrap booker. I'm not. Not because I don't want to be but because there is always something else I want to do more. I've never, ever completed a whole scrap book, although I do have a few random pages here and there. LOL! I've been making a Memory Dex calendar (one for each day) for my mom. I love that they are small and the options are pretty much endless. I do kind-of wish I had decided to do one per week instead of one per day, though. Oops! Well, I wanted a challenge, so...
I love trying new things but my absolute favorite is to find a new way to use old things. I love upcycling!!! Once I've been here long enough, I'll probably host some "use what you have" crafting swaps to challenge us to use up some of those old supplies we've had sitting around forEVER. In addition to Memory Dex cards, I enjoy making ATCs and handmade ornaments.
Cats, of course. But I also love chinchillas, koalas and kangaroos. Oh, and platypus and sloth and llama and alpaca...
I've been in love with koalas since I was a child, so when I finally made it to Australia, I made darn sure I went somewhere that I could actually hold one. And I chose well, because the sanctuary was not crowded that day, so I was able to have a turn holding one TWICE. Oh yea! They also had a large area where you could hang out with kangaroos for as long as you wanted. I'd always thought they were cool but I totally fell in love with them that day! I really didn't expect them to be so soft! We had quite a few friendly ones hanging out with us and it was truly the most awesome birthday present ever.
It's my dream to some day open a critter cafe - basically a cat cafe with some other random animals from time to time. I had chinchillas and would definitely include them in my cafe. I've also raised African pigmy hedgehogs back in college but they are illegal here in Hawaii, unfortunately.
I love trying new foods from all around the world! I don't have any allergies, although I choose not to eat anything with artificial sweeteners (stevia and monk fruit are fine but no Splenda, sucralose, sugar alcohols, etc.) That being said, one small treat with some artificial sweetener isn't going to be a big deal. I just wouldn't want someone to send me a package of something I wouldn't eat.
Dark chocolate is my favorite and anything with chocolate and mint is sure to be a winner. I also love all things mint, even when it isn't with chocolate. LOL! Coffee flavored snacks are also very much enjoyed. I have a weird obsession with cotton candy but haven't indulged in it in years. Although I just saw a video by Emmy Made where she made a dragon's beard candy and I'm thinking of trying it out. It appears to be a slightly chewy version of homemade cotton candy.
I'm not a big tea drinker but I do like to use some fun ones to flavor my kombucha that I brew at home. Fruity ones are the most obvious choice for that but I have a honey chamomile that is divine in kombucha! And I'm always game to test out new flavors.
While I don't drink coffee daily, I do love it. Regular or decaf doesn't matter, as I'm enjoying it for the flavor, not the caffeine. And it is fun to try strange flavors. I'm getting ready to open a bacon one pretty soon. LOL! (Update: it did NOT taste like bacon at all! Humph!)
I do enjoy those flavor packs that you add to water but they can be a little hard to find without artificial sweeteners.
My latest obsession has been the decorative faux leathers. Yes, I know I'm late to the game. Everyone was doing the earrings with them, so I didn't. But then I decided to get some to design with (and then I'll do my upcycled cans in whatever designs I like best) and I fell in love with them! So now I'm doing both and even blending the metal and faux leather together in some of my designs. I've also bought a ton of fun resin molds and hope to incorporate that into my designs, as well. I want to learn resin painting but, right now, I just have a really fun time blending and swirling the different colors of resin.
I really don't need any more paper stuff! But I'll join some swaps anyways, with the plan of sending out more than I'll get. Hahaha! Plus, new supplies are always fun and working with what someone sends you, instead of what you pick out, is a good creative exercise.
