About Me

Sewing is therapy.

I used to be a full time dollmaker. I've been on hiatus from crafting and sewing for the last 18 months or so, but now I'm settled into a new home and I've been sewing non-stop for weeks.

At the moment, I am dying to exchange a heap of fat quarters I got for Christmas for something a bit more classic looking. If you're contemplating an exchange like that, please consider letting me in on it.

Favorite Crafts

doll-making, quilting, silk ribbon embroidery

I'm also a (sort of) professional author. I write young adult novels.

Because I make dolls, small quantities of beads, ribbons, fabric and leather scraps, etc, can go a long way in my projects.

Likes/Dislikes

Likes:

  1. fabric/fat quarters (classic florals)
  2. pastels
  3. electric bright colors (esp. on white backgrounds)
  4. kawaii/zakka
  5. 19th & 18th century
  6. classic scientific illustrations of plants and insects, or illustration from garden journals
  7. paintings (see my painting/drawing board on Pinterest)
  8. Pre-Raphaelites
  9. bento (Japanese lunch boxes)
  10. high quality teas
  11. stationery (writing paper rather than notecards)
  12. fine point pens
  13. Moleskines
  14. faerie tales
  15. trees and birds
  16. original art (I like hand-drawn ATCs, I don't much care for ones covered in stickers and glitter)
  17. Miniature things. Think doll-sized. But not dollhouses.
  18. Bread recipes (though not bread machine ones)
  19. Herbs & spices in small containers.
  20. Shabby Chic (bedding line found at Target, good example of my favorite colors and prints)
  21. Sweets or snacks, especially if they're new to me or I can't get them in my area (very fond of English chocolate!)

Dislikes:

  1. "Inspirational" stuff (Precious Moments, stuff with Bible verses, etc.)
  2. Child themed items - I don't have kids, I won't have a use for them.
  3. Licorice (sorry)
  4. Thick bookmarks. They damage the spine!
  5. Anything obviously holiday-themed, with the exception of some Easter stuff because I like the colors. I don't want to see the Easter bunny with a basket of eggs or HAPPY EASTER written on it.
  6. Hot cinnamon (think Red Hots or Hot Tamales)
  7. Disney Princess stuff. Except Mulan and Tangled.
  8. Original poetry. Unless you're Mary Oliver. If you're Mary Oliver, hi! I'm so glad you're on swap bot.

I'll add to these lists if I think of anything more.
