I am 38 years old. I am not married and I have no kids. I have two dogs instead. Tasha is a 13 year old Peke who is grumpy as hell and Dexy, a 3 year old Australian Cattle Dog who is the happiest dog on Earth! ^_~ I love them so much.
I work in a bookshop. I love mail and postage stamps and decorated envelopes and writing paper and other pretty stationery, cards, pens (I am very fussy - I am searching for the thinnest tipped pen in the world) and other things.
I love reading, hardly ever watch TV (but currently I do like to watch Monk) and haven't been to see a movie at the cinema in years (last one I saw was Avatar, before that was probably Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban!)
I love to send and receive postcards. The first part of sending a postcard is finding one that I think my swap partner will enjoy. This can sometimes be difficult because the only postcards I can buy locally are tourist cards. I did buy some postcard books online, but they were not made here in South Africa.
After the choosing of the card I write in the name and the address in my best writing. Then I choose the stamps. I try to use two or more. We have brilliant stamps in South Africa and if possible I use both definitive and special issue stamps.
My favourite postcards to receive are animals. It would be so cool to have pictures of mammals, birds and other animals from all over the world.
I also like (not in any order of preference):
map cards (especially old looking/vintage maps or hand drawn or artistically rendered maps)
beautiful landscapes (mountains, lakes, trees etc)
famous landmarks (such as Leaning Tower of Pisa, Sydney Opera House etc)
monuments (esp. WWII monuments or animal monuments)
historic cities (especially if there is a river with or without bridges and/or snow)
UNESCO sites.
cats and dogs in art or illustration (not photos). I LOVE Jetoy Choo Choo Cat cards ^_^
check out my postcrossing favourites
Polar explorers (Amundsen, Shackleton, Scott etc) and their ships (Fram, Endevour, Endurance etc)
Dog sledding. Sleds and sleighs.
Ballet and ballet dancers
Botanical Illustrations
I like my card written on, without an envelope and with nice postage stamps. I do not mind any shape or size of postcard.
Please write a message. If you do not know what to write about here are a few suggestions:
The weather. I live in a place that is almost always warm and sunny. Is it snowing where you live? Do you like it, what does it feel like?
Your dog or cat. I can never get tired of hearing about dogs and cats and their funny behaviour and antics.
What is happening as you write your card. Are you waiting? Are you in bed? Is it early in the morning? Is your baby taking a nap?
What you are eating or have eaten or will eat that day. Is this a dish you cook yourself, do you eat it often, is it your favourite?
I do not like ad cards, free cards, Anne Geddes cards (or in fact any cards featuring babies), cartoon cards (I do not like Moomins, little mole, Diddl).
I welcome trades. If you have a card that you think I would like then please check out my picasa album and select a card you would like. If you would like a surprise card then that is great too, I will pick one for you based on your preferences. We can trade as many as you like and I will even send to you in an envelope if that is what you prefer but I would like the same number of cards in return sent naked in the mail.
