Hello! My name is Melanie. I work full time at a university and I am pursuing a Masters degree in Higher Education part-time. My bachelors degrees are in Art and Spanish, but I ended up with a career I love in Higher Ed and am very excited to see where that takes me.

I love the arts, and I see plays, musicals, concerts, and art shows whenever I can.

I collect lapel pins, and my collection has recently surpassed 200 pins! I always buy a lapel pin when I visit somewhere new, and my friends and family occasionally gift me pins from their travels as well. I record the story behind every pin.

I enjoy most types of music; particularly alternative, classical, and showtunes.

My favorite books are the Harry Potter series and Pride and Prejudice, though I will read almost anything. I am a huge comic book fan, and my favorite comics are currently Captain Marvel and Bitch Planet. I tend to read more Marvel series' than anything, but I've also been enjoying a lot of Image comics lately as well. Recent favorites have included Spider-Gwen, Silk, Thor, Pretty Deadly, Jem and the Holograms, and A-Force.

I tend to enjoy most movies I end up seeing, but there are not many that make me want to watch them again and again. The Fifth Element is one of my all-time favorites, and definitely one I could watch over and over. I'm a sucker for movies like Legally Blonde and She's the Man, and I will always cry at the end of A League of Their Own.

As for more recent movies, I really enjoyed Captain America: The Winter Soldier and will admit to having watched it several times. My favorite Disney movie is Mulan.

I watch too much Netflix! Star Trek (any series, but especially TNG and DS9) and Parks and Recreation tend to be the shows I can rewatch into infinity. I've also really been enjoying Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Agent Carter, and Orange is the New Black.

I'll admit, I also enjoy cartoons! Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, and Steven Universe have been especially fun to watch lately. I also love old-school magical girl animes like Sailor Moon.

I love to sew! I make clothing, costumes, accessories, etc. I have a bachelors degree in Art, so I also enjoy painting, drawing, and digital art.

I always look forward to trying something new while I'm crafting, so the type of crafts I make are always changing.
