Dark academia books are a genre of fiction centered on higher education, elite boarding schools, or libraries, featuring moody atmospheres, secret societies, and dark themes like obsession, tragedy, or murder. Seen in works such as Peter Weir’s 1989 film Dead Poets Society and Donna Tartt’s 1992 novel The Secret History, the genre still lacks a concrete definition. However, it can be classified as a more melancholic offshoot of the campus novel, with elements of mystery and thriller narratives and even Gothic. Typically, an academic institution serves as the setting for one or several crimes or tragedies, the perpetrators, motives and consequences of which are usually revealed as the plot unfolds. These events will often be a result of the characters’ studies, academic research or university rituals. Description: Read just one dark academia book. On a postcard, note card or letter, write the name of the book and author. Write a short summary and brief review. Try not to give away any spoilers in case your partner wants to read the book. Then, stamp it, address it, and mail it. Remember to add the swap name and your username. | |
