About Me

JANUARY 2026: Well, that break was more than a couple of months! I'm back and looking forward to swapping again.

AUGUST 2023: I'm taking a little break from swapping for a while. I hope to be back in a few months. Admins of the groups I'm in, if you need to delete me for inactivity, I understand (but I hope you'll reconsider). All the best to my fellow swappers and have fun creating!

SPOILER ALERT: If you click on my links above, you will see my current and past creations. I couldn't get my Flickr links to work above, but try this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/elvesintheattic/ (or you can try searching for steedjj or ElvesInTheAttic under People). Why do I have two Flickr accounts? I couldn't access one of them and created a new one in frustration. Then, somehow I was able to access the first one again, but not the second one. Then I lost access again. And so it goes...I just keep bouncing back and forth between these two accounts.

RATING & HEARTS: I love to receive your works of art! Please don't feel you need to include anything other than that (I have LOTS of stuff already) for a heart. I do love a note telling me a little about yourself or your art.

RESWAPPING: Each person has artsy preferences and if my creations don't fit in your collection please feel free to send them on their way to a new home. I won't be offended.

I'm addicted to ATCs. I love the small format and that, for the most part, I can get them finished in one sitting while The Muse whispers in my ear.

My pronouns are she/her and I'm married with adult kids. We have an active lifestyle: hockey (my husband), soccer (me), snowboarding/skiing, kayaking, hiking and travel for the whole family. We recently bought a 1970 vintage camping trailer and LOVE going out in that after years of tent camping; we're getting soft. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I am a big fan of the Seattle Sounders (MLS soccer).

My sister told me a while ago that she and her husband were talking about couples they knew and when they came to my husband and me he said, "They're in the sandbox. They'll always be in the sandbox." That describes me (us) perfectly. I'm very in touch with my inner child.

I'm a hoarder of craft supplies (don't tell my husband I confessed to that) because I 'know' I'll be able to find a way to use them on a project. My family also thinks I'm over the top with recycling. It really pisses me off when they don't put recyclable stuff in the recycle bin and trash in the trashcan. I've been known to snatch something out of there if I think I can use it in my art.

I joke that I have crafting ADD - I'm always trying some new thing and then diving into the next new thing. I used to be a scrapbooker but haven't done much of that in a long time.

My favorite holiday, hands down, is Halloween. I prefer creepy Halloween over cute Halloween.

Comment: Love the ATCโ€™s you sent! You picked some good ones for me. I love collecting them, but I still feel like they need to be circulated occasionally. The cats are so cute, makes me miss my kitty Miss Ouchie, I had in Kansas 13 years ago. But I said Iโ€™d never get another cat.
Response: I'm so glad! It's tricky to pick some for other people. I know some people are really offended at the thought of their cards being traded. Not moi! I say send them out into the world if they no longer strike your fancy.

Comment: Thank you for the super fun pocket ATC with coordinating tag. Great idea! Anaheim is the next street over, so we truly would be neighbors if you were still here. I lived in Edmonds for a few years, so we would've been neighbors there, too. The postage to use is very much appreciated!
Response: No way! What a weird coincidence! Thanks for the rating and happy swapping. ๐Ÿ˜

Comment: Wow, I just got right in to Swapbot. Does that mean they've fixed things or was that a fluke. LOL. Anyway, thank you so much for the very cool ATC! Is that a Stampotique stamp? I miss them! And thank you so much for the extra goodies!
Response: I don't want to throw any shade around but I think it was definitely a fluke - ha ha! It IS a Stampotique stamp! First time I used it. My son found someone selling them recently and scored that one for me. I miss them, too. Love me some Daniel Torrente weirdness. All the best to you!

Comment: Hi Julie-Love your primary colors ATC!! Funny I thought about using stamps of those colors also. But I love your idea better with the string and seal so I think Iโ€™ll have to come up with something else!! You did an awesome job on it!! Thanks also for the extra stamps and for your creative masterboard card.
Response: Thank you so much! I love a good used postage stamp ATC - there are so many different things to do with them. Go for it!

Comment: Thank you so much for the beautiful and generous amount of papers! You did an excellent job! I had the same problem with mine until I discovered I needed to thin the paint. I love your painted note card! It's gorgeous! Is the background a Gelli print? I've been doing many of them lately for a couple of challenges I'm in. I enjoyed your note. Yes, we do have some things in common. I wish I was back in the Pacific Northwest. I'm not looking forward to summer here. It's already warming up and is very nice weather but it won't be long before it's blazing hot. I don't do well with that. Plus, I'd love to be back in the PNW so I can attend Art and Soul again! ๐Ÿ˜Š Thank you again for the great swap!
Response: Thanks! If it's the card I'm thinking of it's from a masterboard of a bunch of scraps - mostly gel prints - that I randomly put together. Sometimes I have to thin the stash - LOL. Wacky weather right now in the PNW - snow in the morning and sunny and warmer a couple of hours later, with rain in between. Just another spring day...ha ha. All the best to you!

Thanks so much again for the awesome RAK you sent me last month! I got a compliment on one of the ATC backgrounds I used today and it reminded me how grateful I was to receive such a nice package. I hope you're doing well :)

Hi Julie, Honestly, I am a self taught artist too. Of course, I have been taking classes for over 22 years. But, just started abstract paintings. I really have spent this past year of pandemic on YouTube. There are so many demos and tutorials available there. I feel like I am back in college!! I have learned everything from the basics of composition to color theory to mixing colors to .... I suggest that you try out some of the ones on there, and see what teachers that you connect with. Then just subscribe to them and make believe that you are back in school. I'll watch a video, then go into my studio room and try out what I learned. I am definitely beginning to like what is happening.

I do have to say that if you are at all serious about this, you should subscribe to YouTube for a monthly fee. All the videos are free, but they interrupt them constantly with ads. Not much of a problem if you are watching a 3 minute music video. But these tutorials can last a few minutes or over an hour. I just couldn't stand the constant interruptions every 3 minutes. It's been so worthwhile!!. I go on with a cup of coffee first thing in the morning and see what's new that day. If it is short, I may watch a few. Longer ones I save and watch them later at night. Good luck and have fun!

Hello, Julie! Welcome to the Artisan ATC group! Like you, I am always open to new ideas and techniques. I hope you will teach me some :-) Sadly, for me, I am also a craft hoarder.. although now it's turned into everything hoarder, as I see potential in almost everything! Let me know if you would like to be an officer and host some swaps. I look forward to swapping with you :-)
