Comment: What a fun postcard and postage stamps! To answer your question, I just recently joined a women's spirituality group that meets at a Unitarian Universalist Church twice a month. They follow the Wheel of the Year which is what I am also interested in. Before this I attended a few group rituals and celebrations through an awesome pagan shop in Phoenix, AZ (I lived in Phoenix for 18 years before moving to ME last year). If you haven't heard of Fantasia Crystals in Phoenix, check it out! Love that place!

Comment: I thank you for the cool Halloween PC. Your family must be great, mine not so much as they aren't as accepting about me being a witch, Oh well. I really don't care what those people think, I just wish they were more openminded. I think it's grand that you are working on getting together a travel altar! What a great idea that is! I would have never have thought of it. I do have a travel smudging kit, though. My plans for Samhain are still up in the air. I have a couple of ideas though. What are your plans? Comment: Thank you for your little chunk PC! I've lived in Washington for around 35 years, now. I miss Arizona, though. Washington is a lovely state and I like being able to visit the ocean and the beach areas of the Sound, something that I couldn't (of course) do in Arizona, but it has its own unique beauty and there are mountainous, green areas there, too.
Response: I have to say that I'm very envious. WA is such a beautiful place. When I was driving around, I felt that it's a major city in the woods. Sure, I was not in Seattle proper, but the outskirts like Belleview, Redmond, etc. What I'm come to learn with age, is that every place has its beauty...you just have to stop and take a moment to appreciate it. Comment: Hi Rick! I hope it has cooled down out there in the desert. If it gets in the mid 90’s here it is too hot for me. I’m a former semi driver and we went to Phoenix often hauling tires from here in Ohio. I remember it was so very hot in the trailer rolling out the tires, don’t miss that at all. I really do miss seeing all of the beautiful landscapes, I’ve been to 48 of our 50 states. Missed Hawaii, no bridge and Alaska, too far. Take care ~ Judy P.S. Love the vintage triple Yahtzee Chunk! Comment: Hi Rick-Always nice swapping with you!! Thank you for thnking of my like of B&W for this chunk!! Even the stamp is so cool!! My 6 year old granddaughter commented on that!! So this year our National Park trip is coming up in early Sept. Hoping for some cooler weather than TX. We’ll B splitting our week between Shenandoah NP in VA and New River Gorge NP in West VA. The one in W VA is fairly new. It’s not in any of the books we have but looks absolutely beautiful and has great reviews!! Thanks for asking!! Hope you’re doing well and have had a good summer!!

Shenandoah NP is supposed to be beautiful, beyond compare I hear - especially if you'll get to see some of the fall colors. Comment: Hi! Thanks for the postcard. I am not a tea drinker myself, but a coffee drinker. I was not aware of that brand of tea so I can't really comment on it. Normally in family tend to go for Yorkshire tea, PG tips or Tetley Tea.

Comment: Rick, thank you for the horned bear PC -I really like the very detailed drawing! The eclipse was great!! After days of cloudy predictions, the sun shined with a few wispy clouds, so viewing was excellent….u til just before totality when a big cumulus covered the sun & threatened to block the actual total eclipse. Ppl were on waiting scared to exhale…but then the cumulus drifted and we got to see the whole effect: it for dark like twilight , auto lights came on, the temperature dropped about 10-15°, birds quieted but roosters crowed, and you could hear ppl all over lahhh”ing & applauding….a really fun communal experience. It didn’t seem to last r.5 minutes though; more like 1 minute. Dunno if that was b/c of cloud? Anyway, it was excellent!

Comment: Thank you for the crispy chunk and communication about it. I'm generally a purist, won't even eat the store bought ones because all I taste is preservatives. A couple decades ago I was known for my vegan peanut butter version around Portland, OR (named Ludacrisps by a friend) though I prefer the original myself.

The postmark is on the picture side of the postcard which is excellent - the front shows where it hails from and has the seasonal holiday postmark greeting, and the vintage stamps on the back are unmarred. Comment: I love the parcel pickup Christmas Bear!!! Our Christmas tradition started 11 years ago with the birth of my youngest granddaughter. The 4 grandgirls (and their parents) are so busy with all their extra curricular activities that we decided to have Cousins Christmas on the second weekend in December rotating homes every year. It is so fun!!

Comment: Wow what small neat handwriting you have. the Post card arrived in today's mail...10/20/2023 Yes our blueberries did somewhat better this year because the late Frosts didn't kill off the blossoms.. The bushes are in all stages of production, need to replace several plants that died.. we also have Apple trees, and just planted this year 2 pear and another Apple Tree. But when I do make them, I donate them to Operation Gratitude (OG). OG makes care packages for those serving in our military and I wanted to find a way to thank those that protect the US. Comment: Thank you for the Golden Hare bookstore postcard with book washi and stickers. I don't shop bookstores much these days but my go to is Half Price Books in Concord at the Willows shopping center. It is also the only place I've found postcards in this area but it's just a small spinning rack on the counter. They do also have some postcard books mainly in their stationary section but I found a book of shoe postcards in the clothing/fashion section so you just have to search. Also friends of the Pleasant Hill Library have a new store by the mall. I haven't checked it out yet.

Comment: I LOVE postcard (black cat directing singing jack-o-lanterns)! Thank you so much. Yes, I celebrated Day of the Dead during my years in Mexico. At work there would always be a huge communal altar, and sometimes I´d make a small one at home.. My favorite part was going to the market and seeing all the DotD wares for sale—fresh flowers, papel picado, sugar skulls and other seasonal edible things, etc.—and smelling the awesome incense! That is truly a feast for all the senses.

Comment: Thanks for the cool Monopoly chunk o'cardboard. The most valuable stamp I ever saw sold by my boss was a red monkey stamp from PRC. That was a few thousand dollars. The most expensive stamp I've ever seen is also the rarest. The British Guiana one cent magenta which is on display at the National Postal Museum in Washington DC. They also have a block of the Inverted Jenny which I think of as the coolest stamp. It is a movie star and very important plot point of Brewster's Millions with Eddie Murphy. Another notable stamp that we had for sale is the Penny Black. The first postage stamp ever issued.

Comment: Hi Rick- Thanks for taking the time to read my profile & sharing your National Park interests with me too. We actually just returned from Glacier Nat’l Pk. We chose to stay on the east side. We did not know they would have such a rough winter when we made our reservations a year ago. That’s the only way you can stay in the park there, by making them that far in advance. They said it was one of their worst winters. We could not drive on the road that goes all the way through the park due to unmelted snow. That sounds so crazy to me in June coming from TX!!! The weather felt great to us in the 60’s & 70’s. But to answer your question my favorite park has been Arches. I love Utah!! Everything there is so pretty w the orange rock. Capitol Reef is also in Utah & is a hidden gem!! My husband loves Grand Canyon!! He has done several rim to rim trips with buddies of his. They also did one as a father daughter trip which was one to remember!! I could go on & on about the parks!! So much beauty in the USA!!! Thanks for your thoughtful card & Happy Crafting!!
Response: National Parks are the coolest, right?!? We ran onto some snow/road closure issues when we visited the Great Smoky Mountains NP. The Newfound Gap road was close and we couldn't get to some scenic areas of the park. No worries, the Smoky Mountains have no shortage of scenic areas. Arches is on your list, as are all of the UT NPs. Great Basin (NV) is on my short list to visit, but it's hard to get to (towing a trailer from AZ...and that's how I'd like to stay there). Soon enough though, soon enough. I'm envious of the GC Rim to Rim. My wife and I did Havasupai several years ago (from the Southern Rim on the Western end of the park to the Native American Havasupai village on the canyon floor, and it was magical. I'd like to do it again, but it's closed to the public now. Anywhoo, happy swapping with you and I hope our paths cross again! Best, Rick

Now "trunk or treat" seems to be the popular thing - decorating the trunk of your car and having out in a parking lot for the kids to go around and visit. Interesting idea! Response: Too funny. We've never done the 'trunk or treat' thing, but I'm aware of the practice. It sort of 'came to be' as our son was nearing the teenage 'phase out' of trick-or-treating. Seems fun! Makes me wonder....do the fancy cars have the 'full-size candy bars' just like the fancy houses do? : )

I love these Fact PC's though, telling about the animal. We have black bears & also brown bears here in Canton, PA. We live in a rural town, atop a mountain & see esp. the black bears. They are very irritating when it comes to my bird feeders. I don't leave them up at night anymore. Because they eat up all the bird seed and then destroy the feeder, gr-r-r! I love the bears, don't get me wrong. But dislike them when they ruin my things. Oh, Had one destroy our outdoor food freezer once and they ate up all our loaves of bread ( 10 of them ) and all the frozen meats as well. All that money down the drain, ho hum!

I have an ISI Soda Siphon and I ordered several hundred CO2 cartridges from eBay - that was one of the heaviest small packages that I have ever received! My favorite thing to do with my own fizzy water is to add sour cherry juice concentrate. I don't have a favorite canned brand right now. It changes over time!

My favorite music genre is probably punk also, but like you, I love a variety of styles. I used to run the music department of one of our local Borders stores. What do they call the fizzy lemonade and other fruit sodas that aren't just water? The lemon is SO GOOD - nice and tart. I also really like mixing them with Aperol or Campari. Mmmmm. They're better plain, but sometimes a cocktail is nice.

I personally don't have a preference between vintage and modern pin ups. I really like Suicide Girls, for modern though. I agree, finding vintage ones can be hard. Most of the vintage postcards I've found feature real women instead of illustrations. I received a few vintage style postcards in swap, and I used one for this swap. You can find pin up style postcards on Etsy. They would feature the artist's prints, but many artists do draw their own version of classic pin ups.

Comment: Thanks! A lovely postcard, I've read about Route 66, in many books set there, as well as historical stops along the way. Did you ride your bike on it? It might be a nice bike ride at that, wonder if there is a bike road trip along the route?
Response: We driven all of it in AZ, a lot in CA, and visited the ends is CA and IL. I’d love to ride my bike the length of it...some day. Some parts don’t exist anymore and some are completely untainted. It’s good to know the history because I feel that it’s fading away. Comment: Cute owl zazzle. Hawai'i has an endemic burrowing short-eared owl, Pueo (Asio flammeus sandwichensis), facing similar habitat disruption by development and introduced rats, cats, and mongoose. Last year, I worked on research of their hunting habits.

Comment: Very cool that you guys started a new tradition. I looked up Yule to read more about it. You always hear about "Yule Log" but I really didn't know the whole background!! Awesome to learn.

At the end of Yule (it asts several days), on New Year's Eve, we burned the Yule Log in our backyard fire pit. We each wrote down our resolutions/intentions of paper and burned them in the fire. 2020 was an odd year, and 2021 seems that it will be better, but still not "normal", so we wanted to try out some new things. Comment: Hi Rick, thank you for this recycled postcard! My husband works for the EPA. But we have not switched to bamboo tp yet! The best thing I’ve experienced is a bidet toilet at a local restaurant it not only has a heated seat but it provides a wash and dry function that even blows dry the nether region! I laughed that I’d never leave the bathroom!! They’re pricey but imagine never having to buy tp again. How much do we spend on tp every year!
Response: Works for the EPA? So cool! The bamboo is a little 'different', but it's not that bad. We try to do what we can to make a difference in the world, eco-friendly products are just a small step in making the world a better place. We got a bidet in April too. I like it, but the blow dryer not so much. It seems to start out fine, but as the heated air ramps up it's less than comfortable. Best, Rick

Comment: My goodness, you have itty bitty handwriting! Thanks for the card. The recipe looks interesting. But what is "two packets of italian seasoning". A packet? I don't think I've ever seen packets.
Response: Yes, I do! I always like to write a lot on PCs and tend to write small...the 0.28 nib on my pens helps out quite a bit! About the "two packets of Italian sesoning"...that was supposed to be "two packets of Italian dressing mix'. We didn't have those on hand, so my wife googled how to make your own from herbs/seasoning commonly on hand. We saw several YouTubers making the crackers (some called them "Fire Crackers" or "Swamp Crackers") and tinkered with the recipe a bit (we opted for a little more rec chili flakes). If you search the internet/YouTube, you'll find several variations. Some people used Ranch Dressing Mix, but we don't eat dairy. I like the crackers as I tend to want savory snacks, not sweet. I hope that you make them and that you find them a tasty as we do! Best, Rick

My favorite player is Gerardo Parra who played in the outfield with the Brewers for a short time. Response: You're welcome! I like to play around with a lot of pens, but my favorite seems to be the Uniball Signo DX 0.38 - that's what I used to write the body. I used the Pentel Energel 0.3 to block the "Please Kindly Deliver" and a Pilot G-2 0.38 for the red/green. I find that the Signo provides the best 'flow' and is the smoothest on most papers. The Signo comes in a 0.28 (I really like ultra fine nibs), but I haven't used it yet (I have both the 0.38 and 0.5). Some people rave about the Zebra Sarasa (I have that is a 0.3 and 0.5), but it's not my favorite. Anyway, I'm glad that you liked the pin-up, it's not often that I get to send those. Best, Rick

I used to pen pal from 1974 to 2008. I gave it all up, due to health & I needed to get that in order & I just couldn't force myself to go back to it, being a way from it for so many years. As I felt that I was tied to it & seemed like a chore after awhile. Because the pen pals were very demanding & expecting a letter within a week's time. I just couldn't do it. Comment: A Halloween pin-up girl?! My cup runneth over! And damn that's some slick handwriting! There's some Apache trout to be had in Arizona... but not Woods Canyon Lake. I ain't "nevah but nevah" caught anything there. The best trout fishing is further north in Arizona. My favorite trout fishing is actually in Montana around Bozeman and West Yellowstone.

I've pulled trout out of Woods Canyon and Willow Springs, but only fishing off a boat..."nevah" from the shore! My favorite northern Arizona spot is Hawley Lake, but it requires a separate set of permits/licenses as it's on the WMAT reservation. Anywho, glad that you liked the card.

Funny aside, I read an article a while back about a brainwave study...the study said that audio books stimulate the brain the same way reading text does.
