Hello! My name is Mieke (Pronounced Me-Ka)!
I was born in South Africa, spent part of my life in beautiful New Zealand, and now call Australia home. Moving between countries has shaped who I am and given me a deep appreciation for different places, cultures, and the little moments that make life special.
If I had to choose a colour that represents me, it would be green. After spending so much time hiking through the forests and mountains of New Zealand, I fell in love with the peace and tranquillity that comes from being surrounded by nature. Iโm definitely a mountain and forest kind of person the quiet, the greenery, and the feeling of being immersed in nature is where I feel happiest. (The beach, however, is not quite my thingโฆ the sand and I have never really gotten along! ๐)
Iโm a huge animal lover and my home is shared with some pretty amazing personalities. My Great Dane, Moose, is my loyal four-legged companion, I have a beautiful cockatiel named Yuzu, and Iโm also lucky enough to care for three Australian pythons: Vesper, Crowley, and Dior. Animals have always been a huge part of my life, and I love learning about them and seeing their unique personalities shine.
Iโm someone who believes strongly in kindness. My biggest pet peeve is when people are unnecessarily rude, because everyone has a story, a background, and things they may be carrying that we know nothing about. A little kindness can make a much bigger difference than people realise, and I think the world could always use more compassion.
My playlists are complete chaos...in the best way. One minute it's Disney, the next it's metal, country, pop, classical, indie, musicals, movie soundtracks... if it scratches my brain the right way, I'm listening to it.
Picking a favourite book is impossible, so I'm choosing my favourite author instead: T.J. Klune. His books have completely stolen my heart. Somehow he manages to write stories that are laugh-out-loud funny, deeply emotional, wonderfully quirky, and incredibly comforting all at the same time. His characters feel like real people, his found-family themes never fail to make me cry, and I always finish one of his books wishing I could experience it for the first time all over again. If T.J. Klune writes it, I'll read it no questions asked.
Favourite movie (at least for now) has to be Poor Things by Yorgos Lanthimos It's one of those films that completely captivated me from start to finish. The story was fascinating, but what really stole my heart was the artistry behind it, the stunning cinematography, surreal sets, unique colour palette, whimsical costumes, and the dreamlike atmosphere. Every frame felt like a piece of art. I love movies that aren't afraid to be a little weird, creative, and visually breathtaking, and Poor Things absolutely delivered.
Anything by Mike Flanagan. I've watched every single one of his series... from The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, and The Fall of the House of Usher. And they never disappoint. His storytelling is incredible, the plot twists are genuinely jaw-dropping, and he has this amazing ability to blend horror, mystery, and raw human emotion into something unforgettable. The minute I see his name attached to a project, I'm watching it.
That's almost impossible to answer because I'm a serial hobby-jumper! I'm one of those people who gets completely immersed in a creative obsession before discovering the next one. Recently, I was absolutely hooked on diamond art, but now I've fallen head over heels into the world of jigsaw puzzles. One hobby that's always stuck with me, though, is digital illustration. I love creating artwork on my iPad, and one of my favourite things is turning my illustrations into real postcards that I can print, send, and share with people all over the world. Safe to say, if it's creative, there's a very good chance I'll want to try it!
My Preferences for anything (Postcards, Greeting cards, stationary ect.)
Animals (literally all of them). The natural world. Bugs and insects. Art / Illustration. Books (I am desperately trying to grow a home library). Anatomy ( Human and animal alike). Anything Whimsical and Magical (Fairies, Dragons, Witches ect)
