Response: I definitely think it has to do with the poverty and oppression that the area has faced from the mining industry. To me it feels like hope was drained from the area a long time ago, and there was just an overwhelming sadness in the air. That's not to say that there's no happiness or good things there because there definitely are, it's just a very different feeling to be there. It's such an under appreciated state too in a lot of ways, and that's sad, because it really is beautiful and has some amazing and resilient people there.
