Comment: I was so happy to receive goodies from the little town of Elmore in my mailbox today! I'm glad I tuned you into a new cartoon. It's a very good one IMO. The plastic canvas keychains are too cool and are going on my year-round tree. You know how I love my ATC's and this one of Carrie, Carmen, and a sneak peek of Banana Joe is no exception. Thank you for the folded box and planner stickers. I'm probably going to play around with those in my planner this evening. And the best for last: THE HANKY! OMGoodness! I about died! I've made embroidered ones for people, but never received one, but a cross stitched one!?! I'm thrilled! I've never seen someone cross stitch on non-Aida fabric. I'm in awe of your skills. Thank you so much for an awesome swap! I may frame the freakin' hanky!
Response: It's a trick - waste canvas. You stitch on a sandwich of the canvas and the hankie, and when you're done, you wet the canvas and the starch washes out and you just pull the threads out. I'm glad you enjoyed everything!

Comment: Your mini samplers are so cute, thank you! Especially the little Christmas stocking, which is just adorable. I've recently begun playing around with cross-stitching in miniature too, and so far it' s a lot of fun. Do you find it difficult to work on such fine fabric? I have trouble with that sometimes, since it's a challenge to keep the floss tension even.

Comment: I wrote about His Dark Materials for this one too. I this series has a lot of meaning on so many levels. I come back to it in my head and to reread all the time. I'm a big fan of Maurice Sendak, too. When I was a kid I always thought it was an odd choice to depict the little boy naked with his penis visible. That
s hardly the defining point of the book though!

Small world, I just read about letterboxing and it sounded like fun. (Don't know if I have the craft skills to carve my own stamp, though.) Good luck finding them along the Greenbelt trail, and thank you for such a great letter. :)

To answer your questions, I haven't seen the new Sherlock Holmes movie yet, but I want to. (Not sure if I'll like it as much as the original stories, though.) And oh yes, Gaiman does have a great reading voice! I've only heard a few recordings of him doing his own audiobooks, but he's a fantastic reader and lecturer. :)

To me nerds are more academically oriented, they're smart and love to learn more, whereas geeks have specialized interests that can be technology based (video games, etc.) or other specialized interests like D&D-type tabletop role-playing games or comic books. There's a lot of overlap between the two, which is definitely where I fall!

My youngest daughter is legally blind (but can see with glasses), and really likes things she can touch.
