Comment: I loved hearing your thoughts, we felt a lot a like I think. I love those stickers! I do think it was advertised as something else than what it was, not to it's benefit. A lot of people like those Emily Wilde books, I hope your loan comes in soon- it seems you're halfway there! they were both low 3 stars for me.

Genealogy is under the umbrella of History. I am not very much a Bridgerton fan. I watched a few episodes, but I struggled to get into it; I couldn't relate to the characters, though I love the regency period. Thank you again for a fun note!

Comment: Thank you so much for your review of the book and the great tuck-ins! Like you, I particularly warmed to the story of the men and the babies, Another piece that stood out for me was 'The Wolf Man's Daughter'. Like so many pieces in this book, it told of the difficulty of growing up knowing you are different, different from your family, different from the other kids at school. The idea of the werewolf as an analogy for queerness – 'Larry Talbot's growing awareness of his nature and betrayal by his own body' – reflects the experience of so many of us as we recognised ourselves for who and what we are within worlds that told us what we were was unacceptable. I've still never seen a horror film but found the essays thought-provoking.

Comment: I felt the same way after signing up for the swap, I don't necessarily dread the place I chose either. Your list is really understandable and I can completely understand not enjoying crowded grocery stores and loud chaotic venues. I also understand family drama and how avoiding those places is necessary. Thank you for the really nice postcard, I love the texture of it.

Comment: Hello Maria, thank you for your letter and ATC - I had hard time to come out with some craft part, too. I didn't dislike the book, but some parts were not great. I loved some scenes and characters. I hated the "soap opera" style of plot and the plotholes (like how did Desdemona know which rune to use to curse all Saylok?). I reeeealy hated name of Dagmar, because here in Czech it's female name, so my mind blew up and got confused every time I read it. I thought I would read second book to finally find out if the curse was broken or not... but then I found out the second book is in the same timeline, just from different pointview, so... I guess not :)

Comment: I really love the stamps on your envelope. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you can still use old stamps, no matter how old they are? Because of the change into the Euro, we can't use the ones with Dutch guilders, German Marks, Italian lires etc. I like the PC with the tomatoes ánd your postal washi.
Response: Yes, you can use any US stamps ever made, no matter the age. Fun, huh? :)

(I know I'm in such a minority opinion here) Historical fictions are hard for me for a lot of reasons on a good day, but the time jumps and some of the plot conveniences finished it off on me. I thought there are a lot of other better written "passing" books that aren't hyped as much.

I will say, this to me is one of her weaker books- but there are some of hers I really love like Wizard's Guide and Minor Mage. Both are short, kinda hard to classify. Hollow Places is a great sort of spooky read , but not too scary. I'm reading Twisted Ones now, and it has a lot of the same vibe as Hollow places. Paladin's Grace is more like Clockwork (I think they are even considered in the same universe). This is a long way of saying you said you wanted to read something by this author, but blah- but it's one of my lowest ranked books for her. The way she does young fiction (with an older theme though), and horror without being "scary" are her strongest ones.

I am writing my own Young Adult novel and a Romance Novel, both in various stages. My goal I made with a writing coach was to try and finish both of them before I'm too old and feeble. I'm 61 and have enjoyed writing for years but the publication part is very daunting. Publication?? Well, I'll worry about finishing and revising first before I worry about that. Now I'm considering adding in some Magical Realism into my young adult contemporary. I love Magical Realism. Funny I do enjoy it, when I'm not a huge Fantasy fan. Thanks again! Wish I had you as our librarian here to talk to. Our local village library only just opened again since the pandemic. I've been buying books so out of practice going to the library.
