Comment: Thank you for the cool postcard. I saw that it was from LaPapierre.com, so I'll be checking that out soon. As for handwriting, I feel we are losing that battle. Most of my students (15-17 year olds) can't write in cursive well enough to sign their own names. I think many of them would have loved to learn, but many schools just don't teach it anymore. I love writing by hand and can't imagine not doing it! Thanks again!

My favorites are the clay gingerbread man cookie press, as well as the matryoshka doll measuring cups. Also, thank you for the chocolate chips (I love Guittard), the coconut, the pans, the candy thermometer, the baking cups, and the all-natural parchment paper. We were on our way out to Camp Roberts, for Annual Training for the National Guard, when one of the engines in our C-130 went out. We were re-routed to Cheyenne. We were just about to land, when the other engine on the same side of the plane went out. We never did hit the runway and ended up 50 ft from a fence that bordered a residential area. We were all OK, but some of the guys decided to go the rest of the way by bus. Hugs from Alaska, Sherry

Comment: Thanks! I love the idea of cauliflower steak. We make a recipe where we slice up the cauliflower and brown it in a little butter. Then we throw in 2T soy sauce and a handful of walnuts. It sounded weird at first, but it's delicious.

Karla on 2/21/13 UPDATED 2/26/13: Coming back to add a heart, Camellia, because even though you didn't have to, you re-sent the pc swap and went above and beyond the 2nd time around by sending a beautiful panoramic pc and you used the ample writing space to write a long note about your day and weather! Thank you! To other swappers, I'll just have to point it out when I run across a swapper who cares about the little things. This was a simple postcard swap, but it had requirements as to the topic to write about. Several people missed that part and when I brought it to Camellia's attention, she quickly offered to make it right and re-send and apologized for missing it the first time. Because of her excellent attitude, I told her not to worry about it and gave her a 5 with a comment about her good attitude. However, today I received a postcard that was twice as long (panoramic), profile specific with beautiful scenery, and had a lengthy note detailing her day and weather. Therefore, I want everyone else to know when a swapper makes that extra effort and this swapper did. Thank you again, Camellia! I am really impressed. :)

Comment: How cool that we are from the same area of the country! I went to school at LCCC for 2 years and am getting my associates from them. Its a great town, one of my favorites and I hope to live there again in the future. Also your cat looks like a great nap partner. =)

Comment: Sorry for such a late rating :X and many thanks for the Penguin PC (I've been using PCs from that and the Puffin range too). I smiled when you said you've tried to imagine Xmas in summer. It's been very hard for my Midwestern husband to get his head around it and he's had 4 now. I had one Xmas in NYC w/ half my family and it snowed. We all thought it *looked* picture perfect out the window, but it *felt* wrong. Very, very wrong! ;)
Response: I love that it is all relative--what you are used to is what you expect and what feels right. That's part of what makes travel so fun!

I love the books that the CIA put out- we would use them as textbooks when I was in culinary school and their recipes always turn out wonderfully. I usually take a few recipes out of each book and I use my portfolios from school a lot and adapt them to what I need. If you ever need baking help just give me an email!

Response: a tiny village called Keintal, up the mountain from Reichenbach, which was about 40 minutes by train from Thun, and an hour or so by train from Bern....if you are familiar with it! It was a fun swap to do.

Response: huge labyrinths? the one I did isn't that big, but it is beautiful. I'll have to check out the site and see if there's another I don't know about. I kind of wondered if those dots were ghosts as well...it reminded me of some pictures I saw taken by someone in a haunted house. they said some expert or another had said that ghosts sometimes show on photographs that way. Fun to speculate about!

Comment: Hey :) The postmark covered up your username but after a bit of squinting I'm about 98% sure the card was from you :D Your card was so unusual, and I thought I was the only person who thought rust was beautiful! I once did an entire art project at school on rust and spent an afternoon in a rusted up overflow section of the river where it met the sea taking photos while my poor dad followed me around shouting stuff like "don't climb up- oh god, be CAREFUL!" It sounds like such a beautiful place, I wish I could take my camera up there myself :) Thankyou for sending me such a cool picture :) xxx

I'm also very fascinated by our myths and read a lot of them often.
We just went camping this month and for it I bought a book called "traveller's guide to Icelandic folk tales"
I really enjoyed having it around and reading a story before entering the place it supposedly happened :-)
My son is most interested by the trolls that turned to stone at dawn.
I've never heard of the book you mentioned but I've read about it now and I'd love to read it!
Funny thing is that our main prison in Iceland is called "Litla Hraun"/"Little Lava".

I just glanced at the signature, thought it was from my friend Leila, and even the message sounded like her as she is a retired drama teacher, and has trouble with arthritis so her legs hurt at times! Only later when I read it more carefully and saw the 7 July PC's did I realize it was a swap! You have to admit the coincidences are intriguing! I had to give you a heart both for the card and for the surprise! Happy swapping!

Response: you don't need to do a straight flat line with this pattern! gauge doesn't matter--and you are encouraged to do it as loosely as possible for best results. You can also crochet it without the beads, and it looks pretty--I think it is a great beginner thing. Doesn't take long, turns out nice without a lot of fuss, and simple, grows fast. Give it a try!

Comment: I love the Jackson Hole area and have friends who live in Afton about an hour south of JH. The lonliest highway in Nevada is Hwy #50 which runs east - west. I've been on it bazzilions of times and every darn day as it runs through the town I live in.

Comment: Thank you for the Wyoming post card. I used to tell people that when I retired from the Federal Govt in Washington, DC, I wanted to move to Wyoming. Not sure why. Well I retired but went back as a contractor, so I guess I will have to visit Wyoming instead.
